This is a very important question. We have the engineering designs to properly adjust your arbor to accept your local conditions. A modification in the thickness of the awning post spacing, thickness of rafters and mid-span support( which is very rarely used) might be all it would take. The way we remove rust from machined iron surfaces at the foundry, is with plenty of solvent (or diesel oil) and a scotch brite pad. Wear rubber gloves so you don't dry out your fingers. When the metal is shiny, wipe on a coating of oil to protect it. For areas that cannot be oiled, because of paper contact, try Johnson's Paste Wax. Rub it on heavy, and don't polish it off. Long answer: Different steels are different (see "What's it made out of?" above). There is no "rust-proof" tool steel. The addition of carbon in iron (to make steel) means that it can corrode. Steels that are "rust-proof" do not classify as tool steels (like the 420 series steels used in knives sold in late night infomercials), and they can be used as knife blades, but they are weak and short lived. The thickness varies, so sand is used under the stone to produce a smooth, level surface for garden furniture, etc. We can provide thinner stone for interior installations, or for patios to be set in cement.
