No, you should leave all the titles you are interested in listening to on your Rental Shelf. A selection may not be available right now but the availability will change on a daily basis as we send and receive thousands of titles every day.

The Alumni library is arranged using the Dewey Decimal system. All books (except fiction which is arranged by author's last name) receive a decimal call number. Call numbers that include REF are on the 1st floor of the library. The others are on the mezzanine. All books except 625.7-759 are on the inner part of the mezzanine. The rest are on the outer mezzanine. Fiction is along the wall on the left hand side of the 1st floor. If you have trouble finding a book please speak to a staff member.

The toolbar is fully customizable since AiOS 0.6. The special support for other extensions like Sage and Scrapbook, which was a feature up to AiOS 0.5.6, is no more necessary. I removed the special support for all sidebar extensions due to this reason. Just right-click on the toolbar, choose Customize... and drag and drop the buttons of your choice to or from the toolbar. If the book is checked out, a reserve can be placed on it for you. When the book comes in you will be notified by mail. If the Library does not own the book, the Reference Staff can help you determine which libraries nearby have the book; or, if you are a Fairfield resident, you can request an interlibrary loan for a small fee. The book shelf only holds books. It is available in 8" depth or 12" depth. The mission shelf (see the computer stand-up desk) can also accommodate large items like CPU's, printers, scanners and hard drives. The mission shelf is 14" deep. Books may not be on the shelf because they are checked out to someone. Check the record in the Library Online Catalog to see if a book has been checked out and when it is due. If a book you want has not been checked out but is not where it should be, try checking the following places: Look around on tables near the call number location of the book you want; often patrons gather a number of books and take them to a study table to browse.

Send a review copy to the Shelf Life editor at our address. We receive a lot of books, but we try to write about as many as possible. If your book is selected, it may take several issues for it to be included.

Reservation service will be useful in that situation. You can reserve those books (such as IELTS books) that are always out on loan. You will need to have a service card and a contact telephone number to use the reservation service. We will contact you by telephone when the books you reserved are ready to be collected. Occasionally, it takes time for a book to move to its place on the shelf after use. Ask at the reference desk for help locating these books. Rarely, an item has been misshelved or misplaced in the Library. If so, please fill out a Trace Request so that Library staff can do a thorough search for you. Back to Top
