An intermittent work schedule is only appropriate when the nature of the work is so sporadic and unpredictable that a tour of duty cannot be scheduled in advance. It is not the intent of the Student Educational Employment Program to have students working in these types of positions. Students can work full or part time schedules, as best meets their needs and the needs of the agency.

Junior high students receive their schedules at the end of August. At the high school, students new to the district receive them at the Newcomers Picnic; ninth graders receive them at their orientation in September (see calendar) and 10-12 graders receive them on the first day of school.

The Freedom Forum matches nominees with participating newspapers. Newspaper editors choose their interns after considering the needs of their newsrooms, reviewing application material and conducting phone interviews with prospective interns. Placement notifications for the Summer program are made by the Freedom Forum as early as mid-November and continue through the end of April. Placement for the Spring program begins in November and continues into January.

Geographical location of where you live is considered when placing students.
