Antennas work in both directions, transmit (TX) and receive (RX). When a signal is pushed into the base of the antenna from the transmitting unit, the signal is converted into radio waves or (RF). An antenna in its simplest form can be as simple as a straight length of bare metal in which case the RF signal leaving it would be uncontrolled and unfocused.

Check your surroundings for anything that might impede your signal. Some things you may find that can interfere with wireless signals are pillars or stanchions and potted plants. Also, several wireless cards on the market are built to boost your signal. If your signal is not strong enough for your liking with your current card, you might consider looking for an adapter with a greater signal gain as an alternative.

Most vendor's client software comes with an application that shows how strong the signal is, so you can walk around and experiment. [Andy W.]

Most wireless adapters have software that will show your signal strength. The Intel? Wireless Adapters supply PROSet for configuration and diagnostics. Alternatively the radio icon in your Windows* System Tray (by default located in the left bottom corner of your desktop) that will provide this information.

Signal strength will be affected if the wireless LAN card or Access Point is placed near metal surfaces and solid high-density materials. If there is obstacles in the radio signal path between the Access Point and wireless LAN card, radio signal may either be absorbed or reflected. The coverage will hence be decreased. In addition, other products that operate in the 2.4GHz radio spectrum, including microwave ovens and some cordless phones, may cause interference.

Typically, we try to provide you with a signal strength of at least 40% or more to make sure that your internet experience is the best possible. We have seen browsing at strengths as low as 30%, however. Keep in mind that different cards or drivers may report different strengths at the same location. Use your signal meter only as a rough guide for troubleshooting. If you are experiencing slow connection speeds, low signal strength could be the cause.

The Matrix Portable displays the wireless strength signal, on a scale from 0 to 32. We recommend a reading of at least 20.

Security such as WEP is probably enabled on the router, but not on your wireless adapter (or vice versa). Verify that the same WEP keys and levels (64 or 128) are being used on all nodes of your wireless network.

The signal strength value shows the RSSI received RF signal strength. In brief, it indicates the absolute signal strength. The link quality value shows the receiver SNR (signal noise ratio) or the degree of PN code correlation. It indicates the signal purity relative to noise.

Throw, throw & then throw some more. You're born with some of your arm strength, but most people have to work very hard to get their strength. Pro players work out almost every day, even in the off season. They know that long toss is the key! Depending on your age you should long toss during the season about 2 to 3 times a week. Make sure you are not throwing rainbows (high arcing throws), if they bounce once or twice before they hit your partner that is ok.

Military strength increases in proportion to the growth of your settlement. Don’t forget that Eyecatchers do more for your troops’ morale than other buildings. And if a group of soldiers has a Squad Leader to get the troops in order, you’ll be surprised at how effective they become.

You may want to consider changing your router to channel 1, 6, 11. Channel 6 is the most commonly used channel for 2.4 Ghz devices (including cordless phones, wireless keyboards and mice). In most cases you will get the maximum range on channel 1. Make sure that the router in question is positioned in the highest point available. For example, if the building is two stories high, you need to place the router on the second floor - not the first floor.

To get up to the second information on your battery, signal strength, and other status information, press and hold the Info Key (at the upper right) until the first status message is spoken. Use the up/down navigation button (above 2) to scroll through remaining status data. If you need any item repeated, simply press the Info Key briefly. NOTE: If you have text messages that you have not yet read, this fact will be the first status advisory you hear.

Go to Setup option and "WIFI setup" page, wait for 5 seconds, the message will appear like "Connection: Excellent"

Simply make sure your AirPort Base Station is aimed at the target room(s). You may want to consider a directional 5-8 Dbi antenna. Also, mount the AirPort Base Station on the wall as high as possible and vertically. Use your software tools to ensure that your antenna aim offers the maximum signal level.
