Most patients will not need to wear contacts after surgery, but as long as the curvature of the cornea is within a normal range, there should be little difficulty wearing contacts after surgery.

It is necessary to discontinue all contact lens wear prior to your procedure so that your cornea can resume its natural curvature. With soft contacts, depending on the type of soft contact lens worn, you may need to be out of the lenses between two weeks to two months prior to LASIK. Because contact lenses can alter the shape of your cornea, you will need to remove your contacts prior to your pre-operative exam. If you wear soft lenses, they should be removed a minimum of one week before your exam. If you wear rigid/gas permeable lenses, remove them at least 6-8 weeks prior to your exam.
