Connecticut College offers two rounds of Early Decision (ED), but no Early Action (EA). For those who don't know what we're talking about, colleges and universities may offer an option for student to apply in November and be notified in December if they have been admitted. The difference between ED and EA is that ED is binding and EA is not. What this means is that you can only apply to one school ED and if admitted you must go, whereas you may apply to more than one school EA.

Early Action/Early Decision is an option for students who have decided on their top choice university, to indicate that preference by submitting their application early and, in the case of Early Decision, committing to attending that university if they are accepted (i.e. they must reject offers from all other universities if they are accepted). The deadline for Early Action/Early Decision is about 2 months earlier than the regular decision deadline.

Some colleges and universities offer “early” application deadlines, for students who already know where they want to apply. Early Decision is for the student who knows where they want to attend and they agree to a contract with the college or university. The contract states that should you be admitted to their college or university you will attend their campus and withdraw your applications from the other colleges and universities.

Several SUNY campuses offer either early decision or early action. Early decision is a binding program for fall freshmen and can be used for one college choice only. The student, a parent and counselor must sign-off on the application indicating an understanding to agree by the terms of the Early Decision contract.

Applying early, whether ED or EA, is first and foremost a commitment to a college that it is absolutely your number one choice. There are both advantages and potential disadvantages to applying early, and the decision is not one to be entered into without considering all other options.

Can demonstrate strong academic preparation and achievement, without the benefit of senior-year first semester grades

No. You can only apply once during an admissions cycle. If you are denied admission Early Action, you must wait one full year and reapply for admission (as a freshman or transfer).

The majority of students not admitted during the Early Action review process will be deferred to the Regular Decision review process. These students will automatically be reconsidered during the Regular Admission evaluation and notified of their decisions in April. These students should forward new grades and test scores as they become available. Approximately 20% of candidates deferred at Early Action are admitted during the Regular Decision process.

Whether or not you will have to submit other applications, you should certainly prepare other applications. An analysis of the response and due dates makes it plain that if you wait to prepare your other applications until after receipt of an Early Action/Decision response, you will need to write 5,6,7 or more short and long essay responses in less than a week, which is not enough time to do a careful and thoughtful job.

Yes, however, we take very few students; the average is 6 per year. Applications are taken June 1 through August 1.

The policy-making body for the graduate program is the Graduate Council, which is responsible to the Graduate Faculty. Recommendations for degree requirements and curriculum originate with the Graduate Council, subject to review by the Graduate Faculty, and require action by the President and the Board of Trustees of Nebraska State Colleges.

Most students who are not admitted Early Decision are deferred and re-evaluated as Regular Decision candidates. In some cases, the Admissions Committee will deny admission at the ED review.

We have a non-binding early notification program. If you submit your application by November 1 and it is completed by November 22, your decision will be mailed in mid-December. If your application is denied, it is a final decision and will not be returned to the applicant pool. You have until mid-April to decide whether to accept an offer of admission.

Yes, if admitted to the Washington College of Law under Early Decision Option you must enroll at the Washington College of Law, withdraw all applications at other law schools regardless of your status and not initiate any new applications a non-refundable deposit of $700 will be due by January 15, 2008. Generally, the severity of the crime and any pattern of violations will have the greatest affect on the committee's decision.

Currently, there is no Early Decision deadline. Our Early Action deadline (December 1) reserves your space in the class and requires notification of your enrollment plans by May 1.
