Basically, all model of CDRW/DVDRW will have a table of the different brands of CD/DVD RW media in their firmware of the drive, each brand of media needs to be treated differently when it comes to burning it. However, if a drive cannot match the media to the media table it contains, it will have a very generic write strategy. Your drive maybe too old, as a result the laser maybe losing is capability. Just like any lightbulb, the CDRW/DVDRW, laser last about two years.

This is an optical drive that will write both DVDs (Digital Versatile Disk, Data or Video) and CDs. The LightScribe DVD+/-RW / CDRW combination drive can read, write and, using the appropriate media, rewrite a variety DVD and CD media, including CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL, DVD+RW and DVD-RW. DVD+R, DVD-R and CD-R media are compatible with this drive but are a single write media. The DVD+RW, DVD-RW and CD-RW media can be written to multiple times.

A DVD+RW disc is very similar to a CD-RW disc in terms of the number of times that it can be re-written. Tests have proven a re-recording capability of over 1,000 times. However, in practice this number will probably be much higher.

The Orange Book specifies a Standard value of approximately 1,000 times. However, the actual number achieved on CD-RW media indicate it is possible to perform several thousand re-writes.

Today's specifications state that, with proper handling and storage, CD-RW discs can be rewritten up to 1,000 times.

It is our understanding that the behavior of CD-RW media is that it degrades very little up to a point (~1000 rewrites) and then very rapidly after that. If you would like to be very cautious about your data, you may want to limit your use to 500 rewrite cycles

Usually. CD-Rewritable (Orange Book Part III) has a lower reflectivity difference, requiring new automatic-gain-control (AGC) circuitry. CD-RW discs can't be read by most existing CD-ROM drives and CD players. The new "MultiRead" standard addresses this, and some DVD manufacturers have suggested they will support it.

There is no manual finish to CD-RW discs; both Easy CD & DVD Creator and Drag-to-Disc finish discs automatically. In Creator this is done as the final stage of burning a disc. With Drag-to-Disc-formatted discs, a small amount of finishing data is written to the disc whenever it is ejected. Drag-to-Disc formats discs for the UDF file format.

There are four different types of CD drives now available. A standard CD drive allows you to install software and play music. If you only need your laptop for basic internet/email and word processing, you probably won't even need a CD drive. A DVD drive works in exactly the same way as a CD drive but can also play DVD movies and disks as well as normal CDs.

Obviously there are advantages to recording a DVD-Video volume on inexpensive recordable CD rather than expensive recordable DVD. It would be perfect for testing and for short video programs. Unfortunately, you can put DVD-Video files on CD-R or CD-RW media but you'll have a hard time finding a player that can play the disc. The Philips DVD170 industrial player seems to be the only player that can play DVD-Video content from CD-R and CD-RW discs.

The standard Adeptias desks require a specially designed computer case to fit within the specified area. Unique cooling systems have been designed to accommodate the locations of the PCs. However, to support customers who wish to use a brand-name computer, Adeptias has designed the Option Editions which can use certain brand-name, low profile desktop PC and thin clients.

As the Adeptias desks are primarily used in training centres and schools, the majority of applications do not require an optical drive. However, to accommodate those that do, a full range of CD / DVD drives are available which can be included (built into the front of the desk) as an option.

Create new document with name “autorun.inf” using any text editor (e.g. Notepad) and write the following text: Note: instead of “icon=YourSlideshow.exe” you can write “icon=YourIcon.ico”) where “YourSlideshow.exe” is a file name of your slide show. This file (“autorun.inf”) must be copied to the root of CD or DVD disk with your slide shows.

In many ways, the process is similar, but there are some big differences. The DVD disc is made of two layers, each half the thickness of a CD. So when they're bonded together they are as thick as a CD (1.2 mm). The pits of a DVD disc are half as big, and much more closely spaced, than those of a CD. That means the laser that "reads" the disc must be smaller and more sharply focused.
