Why are your UV-C germicidal lamps / bulbs so inexpensive?

CaluTech Blue - Ultraviolet Clean Air UV Air Purifiers
It's very common for customers to think our UV lamps are not efficient like competitors because they are low priced, but the fact is they are more powerful than most UV-C germicidal lamp products used in other UV air purifier systems. Plain and simple, we don't mark them up. You can find our same style lamp used in our UV air purifier at a competitor site for $45 each, and we even found another for $107 each, that's just ridiculous.

How long do the UV bulbs last ?

FAQ: Solarc Systems Inc.: Ultraviolet Phototherapy Products
Under normal home phototherapy usage, the bulbs have a useful life of at least three to five years, and as many as ten years. Fluorescent bulbs gradually lose power over time so that over many years, treatment times are perhaps double that of new bulbs, but the type of light remains consistent (has nearly the same relative spectroradiometric profile). The decision to replace bulbs is therefore only a matter of the patient's tolerance of longer treatment times.

I know that UV rays from the sun can be harmful. What about your UV-C lamps?

Frequently Asked Questions
Several safety measures protect service technicians and homeowners from eye or skin UV exposure, including a lamp shutoff switch, and a sight glass for safe and easy lamp inspection. A protective cover with a safety interlock switch immediately deactivates the lamp before the service technician or homeowner can access or service the unit. The effectiveness of germicidal UV-C is limited once molds, which are more resistant to UV energy than airborne bacteria, have already formed on surfaces.

How long do the UV-C and UV Plus lamps in your CAP products last?

Frequently Asked Questions
CAP UV-C and UV Plus products are equipped with high quality, high-output U.S.-made lamps for optimum performance and reliability. The hard quartz lamps are rated for at least 9,000 hours (1 year) when installed and used in accordance with the operating manual. Lamps may last much longer in some situations, but annual lamp replacement is recommended since the UV output of any lamp typically starts to drop off after about 9,000 hours. On/off lamp cycling will reduce lamp life.

Is tanning with UV lamps safer than with sunlight?

Frequently Asked Questions About Ozone to the Environmental ...
No. The risks are approximately equal. For some time it was hoped that UV lamps could be made safer by making more use of long-wavelength (UV-A) radiation. That type of radiation is much less carcinogenic than the shorter-wavelength UV-B radiation, but one needs more UV-A than UV-B for acquiring a tan.

Where can I find replacement bulbs, lamps and fuses?

Avalon - FAQ's
The bulbs or lamps that Avalon uses to illuminate the VU meter are 14V 80MA mini bayonet bulb. You can find this bulb at many electronic part stores (Radio Shack Part Number 272-1117.) The approximate cost for these bulbs are US$1.50 for two. The fuse that Avalon uses on all units except the U5 is a standard 1 amp 250V slow blow fuse 1 1/4" x 1/4" 3AG or MDL Type (Radio Shack Part Number: 270-1021). The U5 uses a 1 amp 250V slow blow fuse 5mm x 22mm (Radio Shack Part Number: 27-1063).

WHAT ARE THE BENEFICIAL USES OF GERMICIDAL UV LIGHT?

Sanihandles by Brookes - Frequently Asked Questions
Ultraviolet light technology is a non-chemical approach to disinfection. This process is simple and inexpensive, requiring very low maintenance. Ultraviolet light sanitizers utilize germicidal lamps that are designed and calculated to produce a specific dosage of UV-C light (usually at least 16,000 microwatt seconds per square centimeter). The principle of design is based on a product of time and intensity. Both are necessary for successful disinfection.

How do I take UV readings on my lamps? When do I replace my lamps?

FAQ UV Light Meters *Phoenix Sun Tanning
Since UV readings vary dependent upon meter brand, lamp brand, ballasts, voltage, age, and acrylic transmission, lamps need to be measured when new to determine what they should read in OEM equipment. Since it takes a "burn in" periods for tanning lamps to evenly distribute the gases and mercury, you may want to wait until you have 10 or more hours on the lamps before taking your first reading. Take readings from 2 or 3 different lamps in the same manner.

How do I minimize UV radiation from fluorescent lamps?

FAQs: Fluorescent: GE Commercial Lighting Products
Lamp manufacturers generally strive to minimize ultraviolet light (UV) radiation in all lamps used in general lighting applications. The amount of UV produced by standard fluorescent lamps, such as those in your office, home, or school, is not hazardous and does not pose a major health concern. In fact, a paper by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) explores this subject in more detail.

How long are UV lamps good for?

CaluTech Blue - Ultraviolet Clean Air UV Air Purifiers
CaluTech products use UV-C germicidal lamps which operate at a wavelength of 253.7 nanometers and can last as long as 3 years. Each lamp is under warranty for 1 year, and 36W replacements are only $22.99 each, not $40 or $80 each like other companies (we don't mark them up). Replacement 18W lamps are $22.49. It is a very cost effective UV air purifier. The lamps are known to operate for as long as 3 years. We recommend annual changes of the UV lamps for maximum ultraviolet air sterilization.

What is Ultraviolet (UV) and Ultraviolet Germicidal (UVC) Light?

Delmarva Air - Indoor Air Quality Frequently Asked Questions
Ultraviolet light represents a portion of the sun's electromagnetic spectrum. It is the wavelength band immediately beyond the violet end of visible light. All bands of UV light are present throughout the environment - it comes from the sun, light fixtures, electrical devices, etc. The UV range of the spectrum is characterized by wavelengths between 100 and 400 nanometers (nm).

How do I know when it is time to replace the germicidal UV lamp?

Frequently Asked Questions About the UV Light and UV Air Cle...
The UV lamp should be replaced once every year but also there is an indicator or sight-glass located approximately six inches from the American-Lights? chassis, that will glow while the UV lamp is working.

What do I need to know about the bulbs of Tiffany lamps?

Tiffany Lamps Frequently Asked Questions
Tiffany style lamps normally have unique bases and sockets. For the most common types of Tiffany lamps, i.e, those with 16" diameter lamp shades up to 20" diameter lamp shades, two (2) 60 watt sockets are generally recommended, although in some cases three (3) sockets and/or higher voltage bulbs are used as well. For Tiffany lamps with larger size lamp shades, three (3) sockets are generally recommended.

Should we bring LW UV lamps?

FAQ
If you want to find tugtupite, especially the hard-to-spot-in-daylight tugtupite, these LW LED sources -- even the good ones that work really well -- can be your worst enemy. Here's why: tugtupite has a set of emission lines in the yellow-orange that's best stimulated by UV in the 350-400 nm range; i.e. the excitation peak for the orange response lies squarely in the LW.

Do your UV lamps produce ozone?

CaluTech Blue - Ultraviolet Clean Air UV Air Purifiers
Many UV lamps intentionally produce ozone in large amounts (UV-V), which we do not recommend, nor does the EPA or American Lung Association. The UV lamps we use (UV-C) have special tubing that filters out the 185nm ozone wavelength, however all UV lamps that are considered 'ozone free' do produce some ozone, but the amount of ozone produced is so minute it is not considered an ozone producing lamp.

What is UV?

Water Filters, Purifiers, and Purification FAQ
Ultraviolet (UV) light is at the invisible, violet end of the light spectrum. Even though we can't see UV light, we are exposed to UV rays from all light sources, including the sun.
