Login the router, click "Status" at the top corner, then check "Runtime Code Version". The runtime code version is the firmware version.

Most writing software has an option for showing CD recorder information, which will include the firmware version. Check the firmware version using your writing software, which will have an option for CD recorder information, including the firmware version. Or you can also check it using the RFlash/Firmware Flash Utility program for uploading the firmware.

This is how you can check your Firmware version number. Press Menu and go to the setup menu (blue wrench on the left). Go in, and then select screen #1. Currently, no "first" or "second generation" drives have been shipped with the new firmware version factory installed. The firmware version can be obtained on the Information - System page. It is listed as "S/W version".

Unless you have hardware affected by a fix (esp. specific 256MB Sandisk cards on Meridan) or you have DirectRoute, my personal advice is to remain on the lowest number above 4.06 that works with your hardware and mapping programs. Some folks on the list are happy with the newer versions, so it's up to you to decide.
