The first place to check is Now We Have All Got Elvish Names, by Helge Fauskanger. More recently, there is Quenya Lapseparma, the Quenya Babybook, which took inspiration from Helge's work and numerous baby name books, then ran with it. The CONLANG mailing list (http://groups.yahoo.com/list/conlang) deals with constructed languages. How should I write Elvish words or phrases in my mail so that other Elflingers can read it?

www.nellardo.com - Elfling FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) ...
Elvish words or phrases occuring in English text are often enclosed in '_' signs, _like this_. To ensure that all non-English letters are represented correctly, try to use ISO-8859-1 or Western Europe encoding. People who for whatever reason cannot use this encoding write with English letters only, doubling long vowels and skipping diaereses (or using a colon after the letter with the diaeresis). How does one count in Elvish?

www.nellardo.com - Elfling FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) ...
In Quenya, 1-12: minë atta neldë canta lempë enquë otso tolto nertë cainen minquë rasta. (ls) Yes, surely this is the basic system. But since the Elves wrote numbers “backwards” (61 for sixteen), I guess they would also pronounce the elements in the same order, “six (and) ten", or in the duodecimal system “four (and) twelve". How can I translate my name into Elvish?

FAQ
The Elves preferred to translate the meaning of every name. Some of the Elven names used around are translations of actual names. There is Quenya Lapseparma, a site that provides translations of real names into Quenya. A typical example from that site is this: If a name is not there, try to find the roots of your name (the site http://www.behindthename.com/ is highly recommended), then find an Elvish dictionary and try to make an educated guess. Why did you write PC Fear Factor?

For Publishers
To help people before it is too late. I frequently receive calls from friends requesting my assistance in recovering from some sort of computer disaster. In most cases, I am unable to assist them. Once the disaster has occurred it is too late to take preventative measures. Furthermore, my friends invariably have taken no steps to be able to recover from such a disaster. So by the time they call me, there is no way to prevent the disaster, and no easy way to recover. See similar questions...

What to write?

Any Soldier Inc. Frequently Asked Questions - and maybe some...
Too easy: like you are talking to a friend, because that is what that Soldier is going to be to you real quick. It is also VERY helpful if you leave your full return address as part of your letter, envelopes tend to get trashed quickly. See similar questions...

What is Elvish? What are Quenya and Sindarin?

FAQ
Elvish among us, is the collective name of the Elven languages that were invented by Professor John Ronald Reuel Tolkien and are exemplified as placenames, personal names and short texts in his major works. The Elven linguists are interested in Elvish made by Tolkien, and usually in the other languages (Dwarvish, Adunaic, Orkish etc) of Middle-earth. Some persons must have in mind that this stuff has nothing to do with the Elves of the later RPG worlds. See similar questions...

How can I speak Elvish fluently with my friends?

FAQ
We have bad news... You can't, and perhaps you never will! Although Tolkien tried to create languages with real vocabulary, grammar, etymology and writing, he never completed them in the manner of Klingon or Eperanto. He never actually intented them to be spoken by others, not even by himself, more than just satisfying his need of creation. See similar questions...

How can I study Elvish? Are there any courses or books?

FAQ
The common point of reference is of course Helge Fauskanger's Ardalambion website which contains tutorials and analyses of all Tolkien's languages. This site also hosts a Quenya course, which will shed light to any beginner (from pronounciation and stressing, till complex etymology). Sindarin lessons exist also, one in French at Hisweloke and one teaching "Gannelian" dialect Sindarin in Tol Gannel. See similar questions...

How can I "translate" my name in Elvish letters?

FAQ
This is a very vague question... first of all, since you are talking for 'translation', it seems you are unaware of the term 'transcription/transliteration'. Translation concerns the rendering of a meaning from one language to another, while transcription refers to the sound of a word, from one writing system to another. See similar questions...

What about the Elvish letters? What are the Tengwar?

FAQ
The Tengwar (or Feanorian characters) were devised by Feanor in Valinor originally for writing Quenya, and they were influenced by the Sarati of Rumil. When the Noldor came to Middle-earth in the beginning of the First Age, they brought this alphabet with them, and adapted it for Sindarin. One example of this is the Mode of Beleriand. Amanye Tenceli is a very good site about Tengwar and Sarati and their history. It also contains guides on calligraphy, the Tengwar Parmaite font and TengScribe, a program that wirtes Tengwar automatically to download. See similar questions...

There are various mailing lists. I am a member of Elfling where some of the most famous Elven Linguistics celebrities are found :-). Where can I find Elvish texts and compositions?

FAQ
There are many sites dedicated to post-tolkienian compositions of texts, poems and songs in Elvish. I won't recommend any in particular, because they are too many. Instead, I will provide the link Elvish Poetry which is a (quite huge) link collection that leads to many Elvish texts pages. See similar questions...

Where can I discuss Elvish linguistics?

Hisweloke - Sindarin dictionary
Ryszard Derdzinski compiled another good and reliable Sindarin dictionary. Here is what I wrote about it in the PDF version of my own dictionary: While I was still struggling to achieve this work, a friend once asked me whether he should wait for its completion, or whether he should try to obtain Ryszard Derdzinski’s dictionary instead. “Get both of them”, I immediately answered without hesitation. How can I read or write to a USB port on a PC?

USB Developers FAQ
A USB port is very different from a PC's parallel or serial port. Each parallel and serial port has a series of port addresses that are unique to that port. With an appropriate driver, an application can read and write to these port addresses. A USB port is a port on a shared bus. The ports do not have unique port addresses as parallel and serial ports do. Traffic sent to a single device typically appears at multiple ports. See similar questions...

What is a PC?

Northwest Youth Corps - FAQ
A PC is similar in some ways to a Woods Boss, and in fact is often mistaken for one. PCs are out in the field during the session, supervising staff and crews. They lead the staff training for their program. During the session, they work with a different crew each day and oversee weekend activities. They also provide staff support and act as a parent-staff liaison. The PC position, however, is a year-round job. See similar questions...
