Can you load-balance multiple shards within a single server cluster?

BigWorld Technology - Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! The BigWorld system will dynamically load-balance shards, instances and complete MMOGs across the server cluster, thereby reducing the number of servers required and providing efficiency across your MMOG multi-game network.

Can I use Windows Network Load Balancing (NLB) with MSS if IPsec is configured?

Frequently Asked Technical Questions
No. You cannot run NLB within an MSS computer network that has Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) configured. IPSec is based on an end-to-end security model, establishing trust and security from a source IP to a destination IP address. Typically, both sides require IPSec configuration, called an IPSec policy, to set options and security settings that will allow two computers (TAS and SES) to agree on how to secure traffic between them. NLB relies on the IP address and port of the source. See similar questions...

What is the difference between the Server & Client Software?

BSDI: Frequently Asked Questions
If you are using just our Windows software then you are likely to be hosting your own database (Motivation customers almost always have us host both the web site and their database so this topic doesn't apply to Motivation users). In this case, you'll need to run a "Database Server" and one or more "Clients." The "Database Server" will run on just one computer on your network. It stores and retrieves the data that you will be working with (e.g. participant data, schedules, etc.). See similar questions...

What is the difference between layer 4 and layer 7 server load balancer?

Neue Seite 1
Layer 4 SLB, or so-called layer 4 switches, directs the traffic towards servers according to certain predefined algorithms such as round robin, while layer 7 SLB directs the traffic based on contents, such as URL, cookie or SSL session ID. With layer 7 switches, you will be able to do more intelligent switching; however, you will also sacrifice the system performance because it takes more time for SLB to parse the contents and do the switching judgment. What is the difference between balanced and unbalanced glulam?

FAQ
Glulam allows the manufacturer to place wood species in the lay-up to the material's best advantage in resisting applied stresses. The whole premise of a glued laminated beam is that you are trying to put the high strength material in the extreme zones of the cross sectional member, so when the beam is loaded, the high strength material is located where the stresses would be the highest. What's the difference in using Cluster vs using replication?

Appendix A. MySQL 5.1 Frequently Asked Questions
In a replication setup, a master MySQL server updates one or more slaves. Transactions are committed sequentially, and a slow transaction can cause the slave to lag behind the master. This means that if the master fails, it is possible that the slave might not have recorded the last few transactions. See similar questions...

What is the difference between balanced and unbalanced audio connections?

FAQ: Questiions about Soundcard and Audio Interface Drivers
Tweak: A) Balanced means it takes a 3 conductor plug like a headphone plug on each mono channel (as opposed to the little stereo jacks that carry both channels on a soundcard). Note that a balanced connection is NOT stereo even though they use the same "headphone style" TRS connector. (TRS stand for tip+ring+sleeve). Also note that to obtain the benefit of the balanced connection the output of the gear you connect must also be balanced. See similar questions...

Is NTSMF compatible with the Microsoft Cluster Server?

Windows Performance Management - Demand Technology Software,...
Yes. Microsoft Corp. defines a server “cluster” as a group of independent servers managed as a single system for higher availability, easier manageability and greater scalability. The minimum requirements for a server cluster, according to Microsoft, are (a) two servers connected by a network, (b) a method for each server to access the other’s disk data, and (c) special cluster software like Microsoft Cluster Server and Microsoft Advanced Server Windows NT 4. You should see directions on the /etc/motd of how to continue. That message lies a little - the aliases for the host names may not be setup up, but you can connect to a particular DS20 by accessing /dev/sts/ttyn0<LETTER>, where <LETTER> is a letter from '0', '1', ..., '9', 'a', 'b', ...., 'v'. I have four servers behind one external load balanced address. How do you test them?

Audited by Netcraft
If we can only see one IP address externally, we treat that as one machine, and tests will be executed on whichever of the machines responds to our requests. If you want us to test all four, the simplest scenario is to make them individually visible to us on separate IP addresses. For larger configurations, we can arrange for an on site-testing point.
