The env variable ${XPSERVERLIST} contains a list of display identifiers (seperated by whitespace) to tell the application where it can find the Xprt servers. Usually ${XPSERVERLIST} is set by the profile startup scripts (e.g. /etc/profile or /etc/profile.d/xprint.sh) using the output of "/etc/init.d/xprint get_xpserverlist". Example: % export XPSERVERLIST="'/etc/init.

Start the Network Control Applet by clicking on Network from Control Panel (Start - Settings - Control Panel) or right click on Network Neighborhood and select Properties Select "Obtain an IP address from a DHCP Service". DHCP settings will only override IP address and subnet mask locally configured. If you have configured DNS, WINS etc locally then the DHCP configuration will not overwrite it.

man iwconfig will list the entire command set for the wireless tools package. Note that not all cards support all functions such as limiting transmit power or promiscuous mode. Use these commands to change the wireless parameters on your device such as WEP key, mode and SSID.

There are a few common misconceptions about Xprint.

Athena toolkit (full framework incl. special widgets like XawPrintShell, starting with X.org release 6.7.1)

The tool "xplsprinters" is designed for that purpose. It can deliver both list of printers and attributes supported for a specific list of printers. Use % xplsprinters -h # to obtain usage information.

The easiest way is to used DHCP. This is the default for Windows operating systems. Under control panel network icon, select the TCP/IP properties and ensure "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" is selected. The PC will then obtain an address from the firewall the next time it is rebooted. If you are using static IP's then you will need to set the PCs IP address manually.

Most modern FTP client provide an option for you to pass through a firewall. This is how you should configure it. On the firewall setting, select the type "USER@HOST". Put the ProxyNow! IP address in "Server Address", and port 21. You could leave the firewall/proxy login blank.

To login to your FTP account you will need to enter the following information into your FTP client/software:

Enter "pop3.phreego.com" for the incoming mail server and "smtp.phreego.com" for the outgoing mail server. Click "Next". Enter your full email address (example: mailbox@phreego.com) in the username field.  Enter your password.  If you would like Outlook Express to remember your password check the "Remember password" box. Leave the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" box unchecked.  Click "Next".

In the "Preferences" window, in the "Email" section under Accounts, enter your name and email address. Set the "SMTP Server" as "smtp.phreego.com" and the "POP Server" as "pop3.phreego.com". Enter your full email address (example: mailbox@phreego.com) as the "Account ID". Under the "Servers" tab, enter "smtp.phreego.com" for the "Outgoing Mail Server" and "pop3.phreego.com" for the "Incoming Mail server".  Enter your entire email address (example: mailbox@phreego.

For incoming mail, your mail client should be set to the IMAPs/POP3s server: mail.cse.ucdavis.edu Whether you use POP3 or IMAP we require that you enable SSL. For outgoing mail, your mail client should be set to the SMTP server: mail.cse.ucdavis.edu TLS should be enabled and Authenticated SMTP should be enabled, using the same username as for incoming mail.

During the installation, the installer will ask you to specify the Root Folder that will be made accessible through Rangboom. You can change this value at any time. Once the client has been started, it will appear in the Windows System Tray with the following icon: Select "Options" to set the Root Folder option. This option can be different for each session. The dialog box for Options will pop up: Other options in the above dialog will already be set up for you and should be left unchanged.

You configure each section (numbered 1-10) by pointing DSpy to the proper directory on your network. By putting a shortcut to DSpy in your startup folder, it will start with your TSC client during every boot/login and automatically start tracking your TSC progress.

Xprint supports multiple "page description languages (PDL)" including PostScript, PDF, PCL, etc. Therefore Xprint uses a different configuration file format which works with all these PDLs and not only PostScript (PPD files are PostScript-specific and cannot be used for other PDLs). There is currently a converter in development to convert a Adobe PPD file into Xprint's model-config format. See xprint.freedesktop.

The env variable ${XPRINTER} defines the default printer used by print applications. The syntax is either <printername> or <printername>@<display> tells an application to look for the printer "hplaser19" on the Xprt display "littlecat:80". If ${XPRINTER} is not set the applications will examine the values of the ${PDPRINTER}, ${LPDEST}, and ${PRINTER} env vars (in that order).

Note: If you are connecting via your Internet Service Provider (ISP), you will need to authenticate via SMTP: enable SMTP (Outgoing Mail Server) Authentication on your client (authenticate via username and password). NOTE: If your user ID has a number appended, be sure to include it in your last name in the Email Address (i.e. jbob3@csub.edu)

The server side is available by default on Solaris (see Note below) and HP-UX (Xfree86 ships a "Xprt" binary, but that is broken and the server config files are missing, too). For those platforms who do not have a (working) Xprt server the you can get source, binary tarballs and Linux RPMs from http://xprint.mozdev.org/, Debian Linux has a package based on the same sources (see http://packages.qa.debian.org/x/xprint-xprintorg.html).
