Handmade soap needs to slowly cure over time to harden. As the bars harden, they become more mild. Like a fine wine, the longer the handmade soap cures, the better it is. We utilize the discounted water cold process method of soapmaking which allows us to cure our soaps for 2 weeks before they are ready for sale. i.e. Saponification has been completed and all traces of lye is used up and not remaining in the finished bars. Optimally, handmade soap should cure for 4-6 weeks.

We use a base recipe of four oils: Olive, Castor, Coconut and Palm Oils. We refer to soaps made using our four oil recipe as Regular Recipe Soaps. To increase the moisturizing ability of our soaps we sometimes add goat milk (we have 50+ varieties of goat milk soap), or shea and cocoa butters (we have about 25 fragrances of shea soaps). Soap is water, lye (sodium hydroxide), and oils. When a lye solution is mixed with fat, the chemical reaction is called saponification. The results are 3 parts soap, and 1 part glycerin; which is sought after for its ability to moisturize the skin. The terms "soft water" and "hard water" are important here. Water is said to be "soft" if it has a low concentration of calcium and magnesium ions in it, and "hard" water has a higher concentration. The ions react with the soap you use to produce a scummy residue that is hard to wash off. If you use "hard" water you also will have a harder time working the soap up into a lather. That is a tough one to answer and I say that it is dependent on the user. If you take good care of your soap, and let it dry out between uses, our 4-5 ounce bar will last around a month as an all over body-care product. They are created in very different ways. In milling, a process developed in Italy and correctly called "plodded", soap starts not with whole vegetable and animal fats and oils, but with substances withdrawn from these fats and oils. These substances are called isolated fatty acids. We don't use tallow (animal fat) or other animal products in our soap. Some of the common animal products used in soap making are tallow, lard, lanolin, milk and beeswax. We believe that we are able to produce a premium handmade soap without the use of any animal products in our formula.
