Dining Dollars can be used for any/all food purchases in any of the on-campus dining locations and is tax-free. Flex can be used to make dining purchases too, but also at places like the bookstore, vending and copy machines, laundry facilities and at the Hospitality Desk. Flex purchases are subject to sales tax.

You can simply add money your University debit account at the Redbird Card Office in the Bone Student Center, at the Cashier’s Office located in the Student Accounts Building, or in one of the machines located in Watterson Food Court, Hamilton-Whitten, Manchester Hall, Milner Library, or Bone Student Center. Food purchases in the residence hall dining centers with money added to your debit account will continue to be 45% of the retail price.

Yes. You can exchange to US dollars if you wish. But during your stay in Taiwan there will be no need for you to convert Taiwanese dollars to US dollars or any other foreign currency. All vendors prefer Taiwanese dollars.

Foreign currency and travelers checks can be changed at the two international airports and at large banks, such as the International Bank of China (ICBC) and Bank of Taiwan. Typical banking hours are Mon-Fri 9:00am-3:30pm and Sat 9:00am-Noon. Most larger hotels will provide foreign exchange for their guests. ATM machines with international settlement systems (i.e., Cirrus, Interlink, Global Access, Plus, etc.) are readily available in the city.

Answer: If you participate in a flex plan, you will receive $230 ($115.00 each semester) in scrip/key card dollars for the academic year. Each semester you will receive some money in scrip money and some on your key card (University I. D.). The scrip money can be used at all dining services operations. Each scrip dollar is equivalent to one dollar and is used in the same way. The Key Card (University I.D.) acts as a debit card, which carries a dollar value.

Answer: Flex dollars are additional dollars you place on your ID card. They are used exactly like Bonus dollars; however, unlike Bonus dollars, Flex dollars will roll over to the Spring semester. You may add Flex dollars to your account at any time in increments of $25 by coming to the Housing office in Beeson Hall.

Meal Plans and Flex Dollars are associated with University Dining Services. Meal Plans and Flex Dollars are maintained by the MSU University Dining Services.

Typically, we estimate that students spend about $500 per term on books and incidentals, which includes food. How much money you deposit into a Dining Dollars or Flex account really depends on which meal plan your son or daughter is on and their dining preferences. Also, keep in mind that money deposited into Dining Dollars and Flex accounts rolls over from year to year until graduation, so it will not go to waste.

Dining Dollars is a meal plan and can ONLY be used in dining halls. It can also be used to purchase pre-packaged food/beverage items. Flex dollars, on the other hand, can be used in vending machines, laundry machines, at the campus bookstore, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, public copiers, dining halls as well at off-campus Merchants.

No! Since Rosarito is a tourism location and is situated so close to the border, you are not requiered to change your money, every business in the city has American dollars.

The meals on each plan will expire at the end of the fall semester. A new set of meals will be added to your account in January, and will expire at the end of the semester in May. M & G will carry over from fall to spring semester, and expire in August of the following academic year. Sun Dollars will never expire and can be cashed out at any time.

Money cannot be added to the Dining or Flex Accounts. Instead, money is added to the Redbird Debit Account. The system will automatically roll into the Redbird Debit Account if the Dining or Flex Accounts have a zero balance. The transaction is seamless to the student; cashiers automatically apply the charge to the correct account. Redbird Debit account dollars may be used at any location on campus accepting the card.

Dining Dollars accounts are only available to students, but faculty and staff are welcome to open a Flex account (see #5 and #6).

The easiest method is for students to add money to their accounts online, which are then billed to their student account statements. If they choose to, they can give you their Cunix user name and password and you can access the account online. They can also add money in person at the Housing and Dining Customer Service Center in 118 Hartley Hall (cash, check or credit card) or at any of the registers (cash only).
