Here are several things that can be done to solve the disconnect or slow speed issues or find where the problem is. Phone Line Issues: Having Call Waiting enabled while your modem is in use will cause problems when someone tries calling your phone line. To disable Call Waiting dial *70, before the number. Other devices on the same phone line, such as a telephone, fax or answering machine may interfere with your modems operation, even if you are not using the other devices at the time.

Check the cables that connect the computer's modem to the wall jack - make sure they are firmly in place. If the modem is internal, reboot your computer when you experience the disconnect then try to get online again. Try moving the telephone cord that connects your computer to the wall jack to another wall jack in your home or office. If you get better performance, then you know there is something wrong with the original wall jack or line that feeds it.

If the Internet connection to the restaurant is lost, then contact Queuent's support center and a fax of your current wait list and any reservations you have in the system will be faxed to you immediately.

Again, the hold time is determined by your ISP. For example, the Modem-on-Hold application can display the time allotted and also display a countdown so you will know how much time you have left for the phone call. If possible, get a different ISP, preferably a national provider with good customer support. Many local ISP's do not have good equipment and will continue to drop your connection. If another ISP is not available, contact an Instructional Technology Consultant (ITC) about obtaining a program that will run in the background and repeatedly "ping" your ISP while you are online to try to prevent it from disconnecting.

You won't lose any files. When Synctoy replaces a file first it copies it to a temporary file on the destication folder. Only when copying is completed it replaces the target file with the temporary one. So in case of connection failure only the temporary file will be damaged. Just syncronize again when connection is restored.

The Library is currently not able to offer TELNET access to a text-only version of the LC Online Catalog. An alternative interface is available using the Library's Z39.50 Gateway. This interface works well with text-based browsers, such as Lynx. To learn more about the Z39.50 protocol for information retrieval, visit the Z39.50 Maintenance Agency Page. The Library is aware of the need for text-based access to the Online Catalog to satisfy the needs of its offsite users.

Blackboard is course management software that is licensed by SUNY New Paltz. Blackboard allows your professor / instructor to place course materials on the web in a password protected environment. Blackboard is also portal to your academic communities (departments, academic groups, etc.). Every course at New Paltz has a corresponding Blackboard site, but not all instructors choose to use this space. Your instructor will let you know if you will be using any Blackboard features.

Web pages within the Blackboard environment cannot be accessed directly (or indexed by search engines) from outside the Blackboard environment. Viewers must login first. For example, suppose you had a scholarly work that you wanted others to view on the Web. It would not be possible if you placed the work within your Blackboard course. (The solution to this is simple: place your scholarly work on a Web server outside the Blackboard environment, and then point to it from within Blackboard.

A "dropped call" is a call that is disconnected unexpectedly. Sometimes, while traveling, your wireless conversation is handed off from one cell to another and is dropped. When a call is dropped, it usually means either that you've traveled into the fringe at the outer limits of your service area, or that your battery is running low and cannot maintain enough current to "hold" the signal transmitting your call.

There is a known fault on Cully Online where the server is either reset, or a new global.asa file is uploaded. Because we are using shared hosting currently we do not have any control over this. Should we one day be able to afford a dedicated server we will be able to prevent this from occurring.

When you look at the gradebook you should see a padlock or exclamation point in the place of a student's grade. This indicates the system had a problem with the student's attempt. The student will now be allowed to make another attempt at the exam/quiz (provided the exam/quiz is still available).
