There are three types of tests administered to become a Police Officer: (1) a written examination; (2) a physical agility; and, (3) an oral interview. The physical agility test consists of four categories: single bench press, sit-ups, push-ups, and 1.5-mile run. A recommendation is to practice the events in order with only brief rest periods between the events.

For most County examinations an oral interview will be given. The purpose of the oral interview is to further assess your knowledge and ability as well as your education, experience, achievements, occupational goals and other job-related factors relevant to your qualifications for employment in the position for which you applied. If you have taken a written exam, the oral board will at no time know your written score.

Weight must be in proportion to height; good physical condition as determined by an examining physician approved by the City of Irvine; vision must be 20/100 or better in each eye without correction, correctable to 20/20 in the better eye and not less than 20/30 in the lesser eye; and normal color vision.

Yes, candidates may retake each exam. The candidate receives two additional attempts to pass the written exam, and two additional attempts to pass the oral exam within the six year total time frame following application. There is a non-refundable application fee for re-examination. As stated under Examination Requirements, please note that there are time limits to passing the written and oral examinations.

For the courtesy of others, be on time. Allow extra time to fill out a medical information sheet if this is your first visit. Bring dark glasses in case your eyes are dilated following treatment. Arrange for a ride home if you are advised to do so, or if you feel more comfortable.

The Minnesota POST Board recognizes that there are inherently different physical needs for various agencies and their communities. POST Board staff recommends that each agency confer with the physician performing the physical examination and/or an occupational therapist to not only determine the needs of their department, but also their community.

The physical agility test consists of five (5) events that are timed and scored separately. These events include: Agility Run: This test simulates a short distance foot pursuit and requires frequent changes in direction while running as fast as possible. Yes. Upon completion of the thesis, each candidate must pass a final public oral examination. Although the examination will be concerned primarily with the candidate's thesis, the questioning may also cover other areas. The examining committee will consist of at least three members: the thesis director, one member from the faculty of the School and one member from another department.

Every two years, the Personnel Department conducts civil service testing for public safety employees. Those candidates who successfully complete the testing are either given full time positions or are placed on an eligibility list and hired when a job vacancy occurs. If the violation took place within his jurisdiction the answer is yes. If the violation took place outside his jurisdiction the answer is less clear. There may be interagency agreements that allow police to exercise their authority outside their jurisdictions. There may also be state laws that allow inter-jurisdictional enforcement actions. One point to remember, the officer that observed the violation and issued the citation is the only person that can testify against you.

All Norwich Police Officers are hired from a Civil Service Examination. Interested persons must make applications to take this exam. Applications are available at the Norwich City Civil Service Office, One City Plaza, Norwich, NY 13815.

Ideally, candidates should have prepared for a career as a Police Officer years prior to applying with any law enforcement agency. LASPD Officers must be ready to deal with a myriad of stressful situations including, foot pursuits and vehicle pursuits, missing children and the frightened parents, and service calls such as burglary, robbery, rape, and domestic violence. Often times the victim looks to the Police Officer for consolation.

The Written Examination consists of two 2 1/2-hour examination papers. Each examination paper contains 150 multiple-choice type items. The examination is set according to a national standard and does not cover the areas of jurisprudence and practice management.
