First consult your child's school. Some schools have an in-school counselling service. If counselling is not available in school, you should consult your family doctor. Young people who have reached the age of 13 years are permitted to work for a limited number of hours in certain occupations. The number of working hourse may be increased once a young person reaches 15 years of age. Every young person who wishes to work must obtain a Work Permit from the Local Authority.

Childhood sexual abuse occurs when a child is used for sexual gratification by an older adolescent or adult. It involves the abuse of power that an adult has over a child. In many instances, the victim of the abuse has never discussed the abuse with others while it was taking place. As an adult, this individual is now learning to address the effects of the abuse.

There are two steps in the initial process that involve the lawyers. The first is bringing information about Parent and Child Reconciliation Counselling to the Settlement Conference or to Court. If this service seems appropriate, the parents will either agree on participating as part of the Settlement Conference, or sometimes a judge will order it.

We can provide your lawyer with the information he or she will need to initiate a referral, or he / she may already have it.

Your lawyer will notify you once he or she has sent the necessary information to NCYS. It is then your responsibility to contact us to make arrangements to pay your share of the retainer (sometimes your lawyer will facilitate this). A first appointment will not be scheduled until all of the information is received and the retainer is paid in full. NCYS will also need you to sign our ”Memorandum of Agreement for Service“.
