Why does the Model 990 have DVI switching instead of HDMI?

Outlaw Audio
At this time we believe that the more stable DVI format is a more appropriate choice, since it is well established and totally compatible with HDMI from a video standpoint. Unfortunately, HDMI is still a moving target, with the 1.2 specifications still awaiting final release. More importantly, there is a big unknown regarding the specifications of the ?next? version of HDMI that will allow transport of Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD data streams.

My TV doesn't have an HDMI input, but it does have DVI. Can I use that instead?

V+ Faq - Cable Forum
Yes, but you'll need a HDMI to DVI cable or adapter. You may be able to blag one off the installer - tea and biccies go down well. You'll also need separate audio cables because DVI only carries video. And if your TV doesn't support HDCP (check the TV manual) you'll be limited in what you can watch - most of the HD movies require HDCP. No, when you enable one the others get disabled - that's because the hardware isn't very good at doing both HD and SD at the same time.

Outlaw Audio
As a newer design, the Model 990 delivers a host of features that we would have loved to include on the Model 950, but simply could not due to the technology limitations when it was designed. No, not at launch. Microsoft has said that they will provide one “when it makes sense.” Recently many sites are reporting that a so-called “version 2″ Xbox 360 — codenamed “Zephyr” — is in development with a built-in HDMI port, larger hard drive and cooler processor. Microsoft has responded by saying that anything seen today is from experimental systems and is not indicative of systems that might be released in the future.

Why does the Model 990 come with a relatively simple remote control?

Outlaw Audio
This was a tough call. We felt that since many Outlaw customers already own a high-end remote such as a Pronto, Harmony or Home Theater Master, including that type of remote would only raise the product cost for all. To keep the price as low as possible we decided to include a basic, backlit remote that offers complete access to the Model 990's features, along with seven-device programmability.

What type of automated setup does the Model 990 have?

Outlaw Audio
The Model 990 features a highly accurate auto-setup system that checks for speaker presence at each channel while setting output levels and delay times much more precisely than is possible manually using a microphone that plugs into the front panel. The mike is included with the Model 990 at no extra cost. We are familiar with all of the various "Room EQ" systems currently on the market, and while they are a major step forward, we are not yet ready to put the Outlaw name on any of them.

How does one measure the food when switching from kibble to BARF?

BARF for Beginners - Most Frequently Asked Questions
I must admit I prefer the 'cold turkey' approach of switching rather than a slow switch. Try starting with around 2 to 3% of your dogs bodyweight (more for pups - up to about 10% for them) and adjusting from there. It is not an exact science and every dog is different so be prepared to adjust as you go along. Not getting it quite right is not really a problem as long as you accompany this with observation of your dog so you can watch for changes (losing/gaining weight).

Is HDMI backward compatible with DVI (Digital Visual Interface)?

HDMI :: Resources :: FAQ
Yes, HDMI is fully backward compatible with DVI compliant devices. HDMI DTVs will display video received from existing DVI-equipped products, and DVI-equipped TVs will display video from HDMI sources. However, some older PCs with DVI are designed only to support computer monitors, not televisions. Consumers buying a PC with DVI should make sure that it specifically includes support for television formats and not just computer monitors.

Can the OLC series use a DVI box on one end and an HDMI™ box on the other end?

Get the eye, get Purelink...
No, OLC with DVI at each end must be used. We generally do not recommend OLC for AV equipment as these OLC cables do not pass HDCP. OLC utilizes virtual DDC technology and thus, eliminate the need of copper connection. The virtual DDC is in the OLC transmitter connector and contains all DDC information required for the computer source, and this DDC information is fed directly to the video source.

What is DVI?

Get the eye, get Purelink...
DVI-D is used for digital connections (like DFP or P&D-D) between source video (video cards) and digital LCD (or rare CRT) monitors. This provides a faster, higherquality image than with analog, due to the nature of the digital format. All video cards initially produce a digital video signal, which is converted into analog at the VGA output. The analog signal travels to the monitor and is re-converted back into a digital signal.

What is HDMI?

The Basics of Home Theater: An HDMI FAQ
Put simply, HDMI is a new connection type that carries both digital audio and digital video (at resolutions up to 1080p) in a single cable. It can be found on HDTV's, some high-definition cable and satellite boxes, upscaling DVD players, the new HD disc formats HD-DVD and Blu-ray, and it is slowly making its way to surround sound receivers and processors. If you are buying a new HDTV, you should make sure the set includes an HDMI input.
