A "W" is not used to calculate your GPA. Refer to current catalog for a definition of the "W" grade.

A "W" will not affect your GPA. Boise State limits the number of W's a student may receive while enrolled. A student may receive up to ten W's for a baccalaureate degree, and five W's for an associate degree, advanced technical certificate, or technical certificate. Once the student has exhausted the allowed number of W's, the student may only receive letter grades.

It means you withdrew from the class after the first week of class. It does not mean anything serious, but too many of these on a transcript do not look good to a prospective employer. We recommend no more than 2 throughout your MA/PhD career.

No notation will be made on your transcript if you drop courses or withdraw from Summer Sessions prior to the last day of the session. But be sure to verify your Summer Sessions enrollment status. Do not anticipate that the University will automatically drop you from a class due to nonpayment or non-attendance. You may drop your classes by using URSA OnLine or by submitting a Student Update Form to the Registrar's Office at 1113 Murphy Hall.

The "W" stands for "Writing Link." Any course designated with a "W" at the end of the course number will be the same as the one described in the Undergraduate Catalog (e.g., ENG 101W is the same as ENG 101), except that it is part of the Writing Links program and, we feel, enhanced by virture of its being linked to another course.

The policy has changed as of the Fall 2000 semester. The "W" drop period now goes thru the first 11 weeks of the spring and fall semesters and thru the first 6 weeks of the summer semester.

Grade point average (GPA) displays on the official transcript for graduate, undergraduate and pharmacy students. Some classifications, including special students, law and medicine, do not receive a GPA calculations, so no GPA will appear on the transcript. If you were in attendance prior to 1978 your GPA is not included on your transcript. Please contact the Office of the Registrar for further information.

Your semester and your cumulative GPA are printed on your transcript. The semester GPA is calculated only on course work completed for an individual semester. The cumulative GPA is based on ALL courses you have taken at JMU.

After approximately 25% of a session has passed and until mid-term, a withdrawal grade of "w" is automatically posted to a student's record when the student withdraws from a course. The grade of "W" does not affect the student's GPA. If a student drops a class after mid-term, the grade of "WF" for that course will automatically be assigned to the student's record. The grade will have the same affect on the student's GPA as an "F".

You will receive a letter grade, worth one credit, for the course numbered 2310 or 2510 and an S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory), worth six credits, for the course numbered 2311 or 2511. Only the one credit letter grade will be calculated in your GPA.

The computer system will not automatically pick up a repeated course. When the repeated class has been graded, submit a completed Repeat Form to Enrollment Services. The original grade remains on the record and the lower graded course is marked as a repeated course. The highest grade received will be used to calculate the cumulative grade point average. A course taken or repeated at another institution must be transferred to SLCC before a repeat can be processed.

A withdrawal occurs if you try to drop a course after the second full week (third Friday) from the start of classes. To withdraw, you need to fill out a drop/add form and have it signed by an advisor. The advisor will check to make sure that a withdrawal will not effect your financial aid, housing or graduation date. You can withdraw until the ninth Friday of the semester. A 'W' will appear on your transcript as your grade for the course and is not calculated in to your GPA.

Withdrawals after the Add/Drop period will result in course entries on your academic record with a grade of 'W'. No refund for a reduction in hours due to individual course withdrawals is authorized. Withdrawals without penalty will not be assigned after the midterm withdrawal deadline.

Initially your GPA does not affect a Federal PELL Grant, but if you have a problem with academic progress aid may be denied, including loans. The CalGrant is GPA dependent, and you will need to have either your high school or your college GPA submitted to the California Student Aid Commision. The BOG Fee waiver is not based on GPA and will be awarded to any student that qualifys as long as they apply.

Students will earn GW credit for summer distance learning courses. The grade received will be factored into the student's GPA.

quot;W" stands for withdrawal. It is not computed in your GPA, but affects progress probation and dismissal. See Grading Policies for a complete explanation of grades & how to compute grade point average.

Students that pass the exam will earn a P on their transcript for Software Applications I. The P does not impact the overall GPA. High school transcripts will not show participation in the test for students that do not pass.

It will not affect your credit or cumulative GPA. Instead of receiving a grade for the course, a "W" will be listed on your ACC transcript.

GPA hours are credit hours used to calculate your GPA. Only credits with traditional “letter grades” (A, B, C, D, F) are included in GPA hours. P, W, and I grades are not included in GPA hours.

official transcript is one sent directly from the school in which the classes were taken. It is an original document, not a copy. Edison transcripts may be obtained from Enrollment Services Office. All requests for transcripts must be in writing and include the student's signature. Full-time students are those registered for 12 or more semester hours in a 15-week semester, or six or more semester hours for a summer term.
