A lot of people ask me about scar cover-ups. They want to know if it is possible to cover their scars. The answer is "YES, YOU CAN." At one time it was believed that scars could not be covered and most tattooists would not touch them. Then in 1978 a man came to me that had 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 75% of his body from an industrial accident.

The short answer is 'yes', but the scar needs to be fully healed. For most scars the healing time is about two years. If the scar is still reddish or brownish in color, it is a good indicator that the scar is not yet healed completely. You also need to understand that a tattoo over a scar will not completely hide the scar. All it can do is camouflage the scar. The texture of the skin will still be the same. Yes, though there are a few things to consider when getting a tattoo over a scar. First, the scar must be at least 2 years old before you get the tattoo. This will give the scar enough time to have completely healed and regenerated before attempting to cover it. Yes, we can remove the scar tissue piece by piece to free the nerve. Also excessive bone and disc may be removed to give more flexibility to the nerves and thus reduce pain since the pain is generally from a combination of the scar tissue with residual bone impingement. After any abdominal operation there is some scar tissue. The abdominal scars should make no difference to your future chances. The tube that was operated on may have been removed, or at least damaged from the operation, but pregnancy is usually achieved through the other tube anyway, irrespective of whether or not the tube was salvaged. They will still be noticable, but most of the time they can be tattooed over and disguised. I advise finding an artist who is experienced with working on these types of tissue as it can require more care when being tattooed. Tattooing over a scar is risky. The problem is that when the skin heals, sometimes it does not remake the layers of skin like the original layers. This sometimes leaves the scar tissue very thin and weak. When tattooing over the scar there is the possibility that the tattoo will spread unevenly or not take at all over a scar. Tattooing over freckles is seldom a problem, but moles can be. While they are rarely cancerous, irritation due to a tattoo procedure or the pigments used offers a small (and I mean a very small) chance of the mole becoming malignant. Old, or unwanted tattoos can be covered with new tattoos. The process and outcome does depend on the tattoo you're covering. How old it is, how faded it is, placement and size.
