Unfortunately, MP3 (MPEG Layer 3) audio files written to a CD-ROM can not be played by any of the current "mainstream" head units or CD changers. Many knowledgable individuals have spent hours installing PCs into their cars or building specialized hardware to play MP3 files in their car. Although many of these systems have been "hacked" together, there are now a number of commercially available systems that can be purchased and installed.

I usually recommend going into a electronics store that sells MP3 players and ask for one with a car kit. It will be a player with an attachment that plugs into your cassette player allowing you to play through your car system.

You can either play them on you computer if it has a sound card, speakers and software capable of playing the MP3 Format or buy a portable MP3 Player.

In order to play MP3 WAV files, you need a sound board and external speakers, any program capable of playing conventional WAV files, and also a suitable codec for playing MP3 compressed WAV files.

SongBase uses Windows Media Player to play all media files. While we do not provide full length MP3's you can make them yourself and "associate" them with the corresponding song in SongBase. Before CDex 1.10 you can only encode WAV files, but not the other way around. There are several tools available which can do this job. Take a look at www.mp3.com and look for utilities like WinAmp or MaPlay.

There are a couple of Winamp plugins for normalizing the volume of songs as you play them - they don't actually change the MP3 files on disk at all, they just try to make Winamp play at a "standard" volume. Strangely enough they are not under Plugins / Output (which is where I would have put them) - one is under Plugins / General and the other under Plugins / Effects.

The included CD-Recorder V3 allows you to convert MPEG3 (*.mp3) audio files that you've recorded, encoded, or downloaded from the Internet, into the WAVE format.
