If you're using America Online, you probably have image compression turned on. Although this makes the photos download faster, it drastically reduces their quality. Consult the America Online instructions and turn off image compression to see the photos at full sharpness. (If these words look blurry also, consider buying a new monitor or consulting an eye doctor.)

Stenciled designs that are not crisp usually mean that you are overloading your brush. Loading your brush with too much paint is by far the most common mistake that is made by both beginners and pros. Dip the tips of the bristles of your brush into the paint. Using a paper towel remove most of the paint from the brush by swirling the brush into the paper towel.

This depends upon a number of factors including the focal length, the steadiness of your hands, and vibrations caused by the mechanical parts of your camera, e.g., mirror slap in SLRs. If your lens has a (35 mm equivalent) focal length of X mm, then a good rule of thumb is to shoot at 1/X or faster. Small movements of the camera shift the image more at long focal lengths.

This is a very common question and nine out of ten times it's the same scenario: people taking shots indoors without the flash.

Blurry images are generally due to one or all of the following three causes. The subject was not in focus, the camera was moving at the time of the exposure, the image was captured at too low a resolution. Out of focus images are by far the biggest problem with most of the images we see on the internet, we strongly urge you to learn to focus your camera. Depending on the size of the original document, some of the thumbnails are less than 1% of the size of the original. This extreme condensation of information is difficult to do with perfect clarity. The role of the thumbnail is to help you figure out if a particular map is the one you are looking for.

Unless your camera is cheap junk, it will have a focus ring around the lens. Try turning it (don't turn too hard, or you might break the lens assembly). Also, make sure the lens is clean. Use compressed air to remove dust, and a damp cloth for fingerprints. Be careful not to scratch it!

The thickness lever may be incorrectly set. Make sure that the thickness lever is set to 0 for regular paper and + for envelopes or thicker media. Make sure the paper is not damp. Verify that the printable side of the paper is face up, and check the type of paper being used. EPSON brand paper, which is specifically designed for the Stylus ink jet series of printers, delivers the best printed output. For those media which require a support sheet, you can also try loading one sheet at a time.

Occasionally, noise on the line can cause faxes to appear blurred or distorted, since noise interferes with the stream of fax data being transmitted. Vertical lines down the side of the page usually indicate dirt on the scanner of the sending fax machine. I master all my pictures at the standard resolution at 72 dpi and then optimized for jpeg. The problem could be your LCD monitor or it could be your AOL/Netzero browser. The default setting for AOL/Netzero to compress all graphics. Big Bad Divas images and graphics are already optimizing so that it does not make your computer run slow but they would look clear. AOL will run better if you minimize AOL and open Internet Explorer and type in www.bigbaddivas.

Encapsulated Postscript (EPS) artwork downloaded or developed from this site is designed for PostScript printers and PostScript output devices. When printing to a NON-PostScipt printer, only the low resolution preview will be printed.

iChat degrades the quality of the video based on available bandwidth and this results in the blurriness. You should check the Connection Doctor to see how much bandwidth you're getting up- and down-stream. If it's below 384K, then the picture will probably look blurry. We're working on trying to fix this in a future update of PowerBoost.

Taking photos with the camera mounted firmly on a tripod will always yield sharper pictures than if you were to hold the camera in your hand. No matter how steady you are you’ll always move slightly during even a split-second exposure.

Is your monitor set to display more than 256 colors? Take a look at the two pictures above: if they look the same to you, there is a good chance that your monitor is not set up to display more than 256 colors. On the Macintosh, use the Monitors & Sounds control panel to configure for thousands or millions of colors. In Windows, right-click on the desktop, select Properties from the pop-up menu, and choose the Settings tab.

Are you by any chance using AOL? The AOL software has a configuration setting that causes it to only download parts of images. Another parameter limits the number of colors to 256, regardless of the way your monitor is set up. Check the software's preferences to make sure it is configured to download high-quality images at more than 256 colors.

You've probably set your video display to use only 256 colors (8 bits per pixel). For the best appearance, set your video display to use thousands or millions of colors (16 or 24 bits per pixel).
