Panels are .062" aluminum that is sanded vertically to give it a nice finish, then the edges are masked and the panel is painted with a coat of 'Polane' industrial paint. A very light splatter coat is put on top of that, then the panels are silkscreen printed. See this up-close picture of a panel. Generally there is no need to do so. In fact, most of the epoxy finish manufacturers recommend against it. If you need a less viscous finish for easier application, slightly warm the bottles containing the hardener and resin. You can do this in a microwave oven (tops loosened and heated for no more than 10 seconds - use caution), in a pan of hot water, from the heat of a hair dryer, or by putting them in your pants pockets for about 15 minutes (you have to be wearing the pants for this to work).

Visual inspection of parts is particularly important if they are to be plated, since the bright surfaces produced by the buffing and plating operations make extremely small defects visible. First the inspector must have some means of polishing the surface, this is best done with a polishing buff but steel wool can also be used (use a back and forth motion, not a circular one). The next thing you require is really good light level of 2700 lux minimum.

Some metals require more attention than others, however, a properly polished piece of metal will have very little maintenance required. The nicer the finish off the buff, the easier it is to maintain, and the better the results when doing so.

the name implies, material with a mill finish is fabricated and assembled without any finish. The way the material came from the producing mill is the way it is shipped; we add no additional finishing such as painting or cleaning. As such, these products will show tool marks, weld marks and scratches ordinarily covered by paint. It is also likely that these products will arrived still coated with machine oils.
