Going to the huts is an experience in communal living, and there are often several different groups at a hut each night. When you make a reservation, you are reserving sleeping space in a hut, not specific beds or rooms. You'll choose a place to sleep or work out sleeping arrangements with the other people at the hut when you arrive. Some huts have a few bedrooms with more privacy, but you cannot reserve these specific rooms in advance.

This is a shared room. Most dormitories have 4 beds, 6 beds or 8 beds, and some are larger. Some hostels have males only dorms and females only dorms or mixed. By booking a dorm with your friends, this may not mean that you will be in the same room.(Back to top)

Assignment in a converted room means that the number of students assigned to your room will exceed the normal occupancy (i.e. 3 people in a 2 person room, etc.). As spaces become available, students will have to opportunity to move to a regular assigned room. Priority for moving to a room that is not converted is normally determined by the order in which we received each student's application for housing. Therefore, the earlier you mailed in your Housing Application, the higher your priority.

Freshmen are not assigned to private rooms unless they meet the requirements for special housing accommodation.

You can express a preference for the theme or route of your tour. If you let us know in advance that there are particular places you want to make sure you see or if you'd like the tour to have a certain emphasis, we can alter the itinerary accordingly. For example, our tour of Lower Manhattan can center on Dutch Colonial History or the American Revolution. It can be a tour that is very architectural, but it can also be a tour that isn't very architectural at all.

Each key consists of a "private" and a "public" element, whereas the public part must/can be published; this can be accomplished by so-called key servers where you can request keys with a certain fingerprint.

In order to ensure qualtiy on the NCIH every room must complete an Operational Statement of Certification test. Tests should take no longer than one hour and shall be included in the cost of the installation provided by the room integrator. The following test will be conducted by the room integrator in cooperation with the state after installation is complete. Audio test calibration and room acoustic test including the results of an NC-rating and RT-60 reverb test.

En-suite" indicates that rooms have their own bathroom facilities. "Standard" rooms have shared facilities.

For many trips, requests for single rooms are confirmed at the time of reservation. On some trips single rooms are limited, therefore we suggest that you register for your trip at least 90 days prior departure to ensure availability. Single supplement prices can be found on individual trip pages.
