Basically, Pre-Emergents prevent new weeds from sprouting. Post-Emergents kill existing weeds. More information is available at this page.

Pre-emergent applications put down a microscopic layer on the soil that prevents many seeds from sprouting, including crabgrass. This invisible shield is usually put down in early spring before the soil temperature reaches 60 degrees. It remains active throughout the spring and most of the summer months when the seeds begin to germinate, unless the soil is vigorously raked or dug up.

The treatment usually dries within 2 hours. However, we recommend that you keep children and pets off the lawn for about 12 hours if possible. Avoid mowing the lawn for 24 hours after the treatment and set your mowing height to about 3". Yes! Just let us know and we can apply a special pre-emergent formulation that will allow you to plant grass seed. But we must know ahead of time.

Pre-emergent is best applied after aeration to reduce the chance of weed invasion in the yard while grass is spreading to the cored holes. Do not apply pre-emergent if you intend to over-seed.

If the weeds are growing on the ground at the shore or are above the waterline, use PondMaster® Surface & Shoreline Herbicide. For submerged weeds, use PondMaster Aquatic Herbicide. PondMaster Blue is a colorant that will also help control aquatic weeds by restricting the wavelength of sunlight penetrating the water.

The pre consumer and post consumer content are measured by a percentage of the total recycled materials used to manufacture a new product. Post consumer indicates the material has been in the hands of the consumer already. The highest percentage of post consumer material is the most desired kind of recycled product because it supports the local efforts of community recycling programs like St. Joseph County's. Post-consumer refers to material that has been purchased, used, and then recycled. Pre-consumer refers to material that is generated during a manufacturing process, such as scraps from the cutting of envelopes. Instead of being disposed, the materials such as trimmings, damaged or obsolete products, or overruns are collected and incorporated into recycled products. The majority of pre-emergents prevent germination for all types of seeds. A newer pre-emergent under the name Tupersan is a selective pre-emergent that can be used at the time of seeding to prevent weed seed germination and allow grass seed germination.

A pre ban configuration will typically have a threaded muzzle, a bayonet lug and a collapsible stock. A post ban configuration will have none of these features.

When effects are used as send/return effects, you can send the signal to the effect at full volume (PRE-FADER) or at the volume that the fader specifies (POST-FADER). Most of the time, send/return effects are used POST-FADER, but not always.

For best results, thoroughly remove and/or kill any existing weeds from the installation area. Picloram, an active ingredient in Grazon? P+D, Surmount? and Tordon? 22K herbicides, is highly active on many broadleaf weeds in rangeland and pastures. Several factors, including control spectrum, thorough translocation and residual activity, make it more effective than other methods or herbicides. Removing competition from weeds releases grass production and boosts the quantity and quality of forage.
