Answer: ACHE does not reveal the exam "pass point." The pass point is carefully determined by the Examinations Committee and ACHE's psychometric testing consultants. It is important to focus on doing the best you possibly can on the exam and not to focus only on passing.

Answer: The Illinois Nurse Aide Competency Exam is a pass/fail exam. The cut-off score for the pass/fail result is information that cannot be released according to the agreement between the Illinois Department of Public Health and Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

You must answer at least 26 of the 40 total exam questions correctly to earn a passing score on the exam. Note that the exam is only one required component of this certification (as noted in question #4 and #5 above).

You must make an 80% or above to clearly pass the exam. If you make a 40% or below, you have failed the exam. If you make between a 41-79%, you will receive a score of indeterminate. Answer: No. Your score is based on the number of questions you answer correctly compared to the total number of questions. The percentage correct is your score. When you receive your score report it will indicate the percentage correct by knowledge area so that if you do not pass the exam, you will know which areas to spend more time studying.

Each paper is out of a weighted total of 40 marks. The total number of marks available is therefore 200 and you will need to achieve around 60% overall in order to get a grade C. (Individual papers are not marked on a pass/fail basis.)

For CAS Exams 5-9, obtain a copy of the examination and the published answers. (The multiple-choice and true/false answers are available on the CAS Web Site the week following examinations; the sample essay solutions are available at the end of July for Spring exams and the end of January for Fall exams.) Failing candidates will automatically receive an analysis of their examination upon grade notification.

You need to score a minimum of 60% overall to pass. If for some reason, your score is lower, we will give you another attempt, free of charge, to submit test results to us.

There is no passing mark for the exam. Scores reflect the examinee’s level of English proficiency. Companies base their required score on the English skills that the particular position or task needs.
