Because both dormant or dead mold spores are just as harmful as live or living mold spores, one should not merely apply bleach or other substances in an attempt to kill the mold. Instead, the mold spores need to be removed by HEPA vacuuming. When mold is disrupted by cleaning, it releases tiny spores that disperse into the air. After cleaning, the mold may be visibly removed but the spores are still present.
