A Discussion List, often called a listserv, is a community of teachers with similar interests. When you join a Discussion List, you are subscribing to "community e-mail." Whenever anyone posts an e-mail to the Discussion List, all subscribers in the list receive the message. A Discussion List is somewhat like a Bulletin Board except that you receive messages in e-mail rather than view messages on a Bulletin Board. You may join as many Discussion Lists as you like, and unsubscribe at any time.

Discussion lists are for conversations, people email back and forth their ideas, thoughts, arguments. Most lists have a particular focus, a topic or interest, and people will discuss different things about that topic, like what happened on a TV show, with a character, a book or a movie. This can generate an enormous amount of mail, so be prepared! If a list has hundreds of members, you could be getting dozens of emails a day.

Almost any discussion about EPD protocol, treatments, problems, resources, and news are considered proper. Name calling, picking on people, and personal slurs are considered improper, as in most E-Mail lists. Threads like these only disrupt the usefulness of the mailing list by perpetuating the problems.
