FAQ AnswersInverters have two or three sets of power carrying wires to be concerned about: the wires from the battery to the inverter, the wires from the inverter to the home (or other load), and in some cases the wiring from a backup generator or other AC source. The wiring for the AC to the home and from the generator is sized just like you would for AC wiring in a utility connected home. It is usually #10, 12, or 14 standard AC wire.
What is a circuit breaker panel schedule, and why do I need one?
ONLY CONNECT LLC - SPECIALIZING IN SMALL ELECTRICAL PROJECTS...A circuit breaker panel schedule is simply a list of which receptacles and lights are controlled by each circuit breaker. They are often posted on the inside of the panel cover. They are most often either blank or scribbled over and illegible. It is worth making a complete, easy to read list: it will save you time and energy when a circuit breaker trips, and it will save an electrician time-and you money.

the Ray Allen Company - Frequently Asked QuestionsThe full stall current of the T2 and T3 servo is only 600 milliamps. The T4 servo is less than 400 milliamps. A 1 amp circuit breaker can handle 2 trim systems. NOTE: We recommend running the servo off the master bus of your aircraft's electrical system and running the indicators off the avionics bus. This adds another level of protection for the indicators from any stray voltage spikes caused by the engine start/shutdown.

I don't like my boat's current name. How can I change it?
Draft rec.boats.cruising FAQThe Boating Gods are said to be intermittently displeased if a boat's name is changed without proper ceremony. Here is the appropriate ceremony, according to Paul Kamen: Yes, there *is* a way to change a boat's name without upsetting the various deities of the sea and air. First time out with the new name on the boat, luff up into the wind and drift to a complete stop, then allow the boat to sail backwards. This represents "backing over" the old name.
What would you change about the boat if you were going to do it again?
FAQAfter over 10,000 miles in 2 years of liveaboard cruising, we'd take the boat again exactly they way she is. That said, there are a couple of things we'd change, but the bottom line is that none of the changes are really necessary. There are two major areas: electrical power and electronics, specifically chartplotting and depth sounding. See our comments on those in the "Electronics" section of this FAQ. On the subject of power, when we're at a dock we have no problems.

Q How does wire length affect the trip time of today's circuit breaker?
Zlan -- FAQWhen the wiring shorts out, the longer the wire the longer it takes today's circuit breaker to trip. The delay time between the occurrence of a short circuit (when the arcing and sparking begins) and the tripping of the breaker may vary from a few tenths of a second to several minutes, depending upon the available short circuit current. The variance in short circuit current is due to the type, size, and length of wire installed.
What should I name my boat?
Draft rec.boats.cruising FAQOne particularly strange thing I've noticed on rec.boats is that there is an amazing amount of attention paid to boat names. Perhaps this is because a boat name is one of the few periods where everyone absolutely has to come up with something sounding creative and original. I remember well when my family bought a 13' Boston Whaler together. There were two major factions in the family, it being a coming together of two formerly-fractured halves, and each half wanted their own name or else.
