How can I get an invitation to attend the Orange Squad tryout session?

Our program constantly recruits all year long and there are two ways in which to receive an invitation to attend an Orange Squad tryout session. One, veteran members of the Orange Squad are allowed to invite potential candidates should they meet them or observe them in person. Two, send in a video tape as formatted in our video criteria section of our website.

You DO NOT need an invitation to attend the Pom Squad auditions or the White Squad tryouts. You DO need an invitation to attend the Orange Squad Tryouts. Information on how to receive an information is listed above.

Can I tryout to be a cheerleader if I am not currently on my spirit squad?

If you are currently not on your spirit squad, you must submit a letter to appeal for exemption from this requirement. Please describe in the letter the circumstances that preclude you from being a member of your school's spirit group. The head coach will review your appeal, and will notify you if you will be eligible for tryouts.

Is tumbling required to tryout for the squad?

this time tumbling is not required to tryout for the squad. Tumbling is encouraged and is part of the judges score sheet. If you cannot tumble you should show a round-off or cartwheel. These will give you points under the tumbling category. Mats are provided at tryouts for tumbling.

Do I have to attend an Information Session ?

Can I tryout for both squads?

Yes, if you choose to tryout for the Orange Squad and are not chosen, you can then request for consideration for the White Squad. It is still highly recommended that you attend the each of the separate tryouts should you choose to do so. Orange squad tryouts will be held before white squad tryouts.

A squad may have up to six members and is a subset of the overall team. Each team may have up to nine total squads. Each squad has a designated squad leader (SL) that accepts orders from the commander (CO) and relays them to their squad. Tryout Sessions are closed to the general public. Only members and potential members are allowed. NEW! In order to enroll for classes, you MUST attend every AOP session. Attendance at every AOP session is a requirement for enrolling for your classes. Attendance will be taken at various sessions. AOP has been carefully planned with your transition into college life at MSU in mind. Note that if you do not attend all presentations, you will not enroll for your classes. Please do not schedule any appointments, such as physicals for college sports, musical auditions, equipment fittings, etc.

It takes a fair amount of planning and time on our side to schedule online sessions. For your online session your teacher makes him/herself available just for you! If you cannot attend an online session we need at least 24 hours (72 hours, if there is a weekend in between) notice in order to re-schedule. If we receive your notice less than 24 hours before your session, or not at all, we cannot refund you for the lost tutoring time.
