Google Scholar is the newest offering from Google that searches for scholarly materials such as peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from broad areas of research. Google Scholar searches a variety of undisclosed academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories and universities, as well as scholarly articles available across the web.

Frequently, researchers need to quickly lookup a paper from a citation or reference. The Google Scholar search allows a user to select all or part of a reference and run a search against Google Scholar's database. Yes. Simply set in your preferences that Library Links should be shown for a library that has registered with Google, such as Stanford. LibX will rewrite links to point to your institution's OpenURL linking server. Although most libraries will not have the subscriptions of these larger institutions, this provides a way to offer your users a path to an appropriate copy, possibly in print form or via ILL that they would not find through Scholar. Our software also examines pages' content and structure in order to catch potentially misleading pages. While Google has not released technical details of how the Gmail e-mail "content extraction" and analysis works, the patent (#20040059712) filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office provides some clues. Gmail examines the entire content of the e-mail message including the header and addressing information (see 2.2 for more details) in order to derive the the "concepts" contained in the e-mail.
