How many days of sick leave do I have to use before Short Term Disability (STD) kicks in?
Benefits FAQsNone. Paid sick leave and STD are two different things. STD has a 14-day waiting period, after the disability occurs, and then pays 60% of your annual salary, on a weekly basis, for up to 26 weeks. The checks come to your home by mail. STD is not automatic, your doctor must supply the information requested, not just the dates that you will be out. Accumulated paid sick leave is used to cover time that you are unable to work due to sickness.
