How do I get the Cygwin C++ compiler for Windows?

FAQ
The easiest way is to buy the distribution CD from the IEEE Student Branch ($5 for IEEE members, $10 for non). It contains the Cygwin (GNU) C++ compiler, the Insight debugger, the "Teaching Machine" and instructional videos. If you have a fast internet connection and don't want the videos etc., you can go to Cygwin's site and click on the "Install Now!" icon. Be sure to install at least the following packages:

What compiler does Cygwin/X use, and which compilers are supported?

Cygwin/X Frequently Asked Questions
Cygwin/X uses the gcc compiler from the Free Software Foundation. Cygwin/X source code is mostly ANSI C compliant, but we cannot guarantee that Cygwin/X will compile with any other compiler, nor can we afford the time to support compilers other than gcc. See similar questions...

Why is the compiler DOS based, not Windows?

HI-TECH Software Frequently Asked Questions
Well, firstly we are developing a Windows user interface. This will be Win-32, i.e. it will run under Windows 95 and Windows NT. But since the compiler is a non-graphical application, and the DOS interface runs quite happily under all flavours of Windows already, it has not been as high a priority as making sure that the basic functionality is top-notch. In other words, we believe an excellent compiler with a DOS front-end is better than an average compiler with a Windows front end. See similar questions...

What versions of Windows does Cygwin/X run on?

Cygwin/X Frequently Asked Questions
Cygwin/X supports Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 as of 2003-12-29. Cygwin/X requires Cygwin to compile and run. Cygwin is not, as of 2003-12-29, available on Microsoft Windows CE, therefore Cygwin/X is not currently available on Microsoft Windows CE. See similar questions...

Is C++ a superset of C? Can I use a C++ compiler to compile C code?

Infrequently Asked Questions in comp.lang.c
C++ is a superset of something, we're not sure what. You can use a C++ compiler to compile C code, but the results may surprise you. See similar questions...

What is Cygwin?

Cygwin/X Frequently Asked Questions
Cygwin tools are, in the words of the Cygwin homepage, "ports of the popular GNU development tools and utilities for Windows 95, 98, and NT. They function by using the Cygwin library which provides a UNIX-like API on top of the Win32 API." Cygwin provides the compiler (gcc), libraries, headers, and other utilities which build and support the operation of Cygwin/X. See similar questions...

Can I use another compiler than g++ (Cygwin) for this course?

Frequently Asked Questions - CS-11 - Cabrillo College
No. You must use the specified compiler or your code may not compile. If your code does not compile, then you will get a bad grade on the assignment. See similar questions...

Where is the C compiler or where can I get one?

Solaris 2 FAQ
Where have you been? :-) Sun has dropped their old K&R C compiler, supposedly to create a market for multiple compiler suppliers to provide better performance and features. Here are some of the contenders: SunPro, SMCC, and various distributors sell a new ANSI-standard C compiler on the unbundled (extra cost) SPARCcompiler/SPARCworks CD-ROM. There are some other nice tools there too, like a "make tool" and a visual diff (interactive diff). See similar questions...

People keep telling me that getch() is not standard, but my C compiler has it. Are they wrong?

Infrequently Asked Questions in comp.lang.c
They've been programming more than ten years. You haven't. Draw your own conclusions. That's right! They hadn't noticed it. No doubt their compilers have it too, and its behavior is identical everywhere else in the world, also. That would explain everything. See similar questions...

but the compiler gave me error messages. Can't a structure in C contain a pointer to itself?

Infrequently Asked Questions in comp.lang.c
Not exactly; it can contain a pointer to another structure of the same type. Try: typedef struct { char *item; double *next; } NODEFAKE; typedef struct { char *item; NODEFAKE *next; } NODEPTR; See similar questions...

I'm using C++ but would prefer to use a different compiler than the one on CEC. Is this possible?

CS 241 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Sure. However, you will be responsible for making any needed modifications to the provided code. The provided IntervalTimer will not work on other platforms since it makes calls into the Unix operating system. You can replace this by whatever system utility you have to get the time. Then by getting the time before and after the algorithm runs you can take their difference to determine the elapsed time. Just be sure that your procedure is the only process running. What C++ compiler is required?

OpenEye Scientific Software | FAQ
OEChem distributions are generally labelled clearly to indicate the corresponding compiler and version. Additional compiler support information can be found at the OpenEye Platform Support document, in the accompanying technical notes. See similar questions...

Is Micro-C a full ANSI compiler?

FAQs
MICRO-C is a "near ANSI" subset compiler. It does however, support more of the 'C' language than most other subset compilers, including: Micro-C has a long history, and began life as a K&R only compiler. It has evolved toward ANSI quite a bit, and continues to do so, however it is NOT a fully ANSI compliant compiler, and most likely never will be.. See similar questions...

Where can I find a C-to-Forth compiler?

comp.lang.forth Frequently Asked Questions (1/6): General/Mi...
We, ( CodeGen, Inc.) sell a C-to-Fcode compiler. Well, it actually generates IEEE-1275 Forth that then must be run through a tokenizer. Really, it generates pretty ugly Forth code. It's easy to generate lousy Forth, but it's very difficult to generate nice clean optimized Forth. C and stack-based languages don't mix too well. I end up faking a C variable stack-frame using a Forth $frame variable for local vars. MPE has produced a C to stack-machine compiler. See similar questions...

I already have C++ compiler x, can I use it?

FAQ
Yes, but you should compile and run your test cases using the Cygwin/GNU compiler (g++) in the lab before you submit your assignments. If it works there, then it's ok. (Of course we may find test cases for which your program doesn't work on any compiler.) where files is a list of one or more files that the compiler is to compile, and options is one or more of the following. (There are others, these are just the most relevant ones.) Give all warnings. See similar questions...
