The battery gauge is located on the battery on the underside of the M-Series Tablet PC, and its five lights each represent about 20 percent of available power. Read the gauge by pushing on the button next to the LEDs. You can also see the battery status displayed on the Motion Dashboard.

The battery may be changed while the system is powered on, in Standby or Hibernate mode, even when the Tablet PC isn't connected to an AC power source. Use only batteries obtained from Motion Computing. If you choose Stand By, the unit is designed to maintain your system for up to 30 seconds while the battery is swapped. However, you may have less than 30 seconds to swap the battery because of the settings and the programs that you have running.

Tablet PCs cost more than regular laptops. You also typically get less machine for the money when you buy a Tablet PC. Unless you already have a specific application for a Tablet PC or otherwise know why you're buying it, there's little reason to spend the extra money. Faculty members are not currently requesting the use of Tablet PCs in their courses. Most current Tablet PCs are designed to be second computers. The assumption is that you will sync it with a more powerful machine.

If you got an AWE with simm-sockets (not the AWE value) then you can expand your RAM memory up to 28 Mb. The AWE has two simm-sockets. To expand your memory you will need two simm-modules of the same kind (30 pin and 80 ns or better, parity or no parity). You can't use only one simm. You can use up to 16 Mb modules but you will only get 28 Mb instead of 32 Mb. This is because the EMU chip can adress 32 Mb, 4Mb ROM (but the AWE only has 1 Mb) and 28 Mb RAM.

Well, they are very similar, to be sure, but OneNote is a more full-featured product than Journal. Eventually it is likely that OneNote will be a superset of Journal; i.e. have all of the features of Journal plus some, but as of version 1 it's not quite there yet. Here are a few of the differences between OneNote and Journal (as far as I know): OneNote's Quick Notes are searchable from within the product. Journal's Sticky Notes are not searchable from within Journal.

Sort of. If you have a digitizer like the Wacom unit shown at 9.20 below you can do pen input. A digitizer is a device that attaches to your computer and accepts input from a pen-like device. Digitizers are built into the screens of tablet PCs and most PDAs. It's worth pointing out that the digitizers on Tablet PCs are generally much better than the ones you attach to a desktop computer - the sample rate is much higher so the quality of the writing recognition should be much better.

No, Converser™ can be used on any standard PC. However, only on Tablet PCs can users enter text using handwriting. On other PCs, text entry via typing, pointing, and speech remain available. A Spanish-speaking patient can understand Converser's spoken and/or written output without attempting to respond via Converser. In this case, there's no need to pass the computer back and forth.

The Speech Recognition Lab at San Francisco State University has developed a DSP memory expansion board for the NeXT computer that provides the maximum memory supported by the DSP56001 processor. We are now offering this board to those whose are interested in high-performance custom DSP development. The board is a 576KB DSP expansion memory board organized as three non-overlapping 192KB banks: X-data, Y-data and Program.

The Tablet PC can replace both an aging laptop or PDA with state-of-the-art portability. If you often need to be away from your desk or in an area where a notebook isn't practical, then take a look at one of the many available models of the Tablet PC.
