In a word: texture. The colors and motifs you see in woven silk come from actual threads of silk; the designs are woven directly into the silk as the fabric is born on a jacquard loom. With printed silk, the design is applied to smooth silk using silk-screens and inks. The Satin finish is a matte finish and the easiest to maintain. Because it has a low sheen, it is very forgiving insofar as showing scratches, dents, and wear and tear over time. The Semi Gloss finish has some shine and is a little harder to maintain in that it will show scratches, dents and wear and tear sooner. The High Gloss finish is the hardest to maintain in that it shows everything - dust, dirt, scratches, dents, and wear and tear in general the quickest. See similar questions...

If you have your CD or DVD duplicated at our facilities onto CD-R or DVD-R, we can put a label onto your disc using three different processes. Which method you choose depends on how detailed the label is, and how soon you need the discs. If your label consists solely of black text and/or vector artwork, we can thermal print directly to the surface of the disc. Your label can be printed directly onto the disc with an ink jet process. Silk Mori and Soie D Alger are spun silks. However, Silk Mori is a 6-ply thread and each ply is a little thicker than 7-ply Soie D'Alger, allowing you to use one less ply of Mori when stitching. The differences are subtle. On finer linen thread counts (35, 36, 40) silk floss is preferred. You use just one strand of silk floss in your needle, whereas you use two of cotton (silk has more body), so on finer linens stitches made with silk floss will look cleaner and tidier and less bulky. Also, silk is smoother and easier to work with than cotton, and the colors of silk floss tend to be subtler, with more translucence. See similar questions...

Ribbon slates are Pennsylvania black slates that have small bands running through them. These ribbons contain a high amount of carbon that deteriorates much faster than the rest of the slate. This results in the slate becoming separated at the ribbon, allowing either the slates to fall out or water to penetrate the roof. This is because the outer sericin coating of conventional silk has been shown in the past to be linked to some allergic reactions.
