Each Forest Service road serves a specific need in the management of the national forest. These roads are constructed and maintained with funds appropriated by Congress. Some of these roads may not be open to all types of vehicles. For example, most national forest roads are constructed and maintained for high clearance vehicles such as pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles, and commercial trucks as opposed to ordinary passenger cars.

Although it is not anticipated, some roads might be closed during drilling operations or other periods of heavy use to reduce potential safety hazards. Actions to limit road access will be made on a case-by-case basis. Drilling periods on any given well are anticipated to last three to four months under normal conditions. At the end of the drilling period, if roads are closed, they will be reopened.

If National Forest System Roads (NFSRs) are not gated or signed closed, they are open for use by the public provided the user complies with rules and regulations governing the road. Most NFSRs are constructed and maintained for use by prudent drivers in high clearance vehicles (such as pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles, and commercial trucks) and are not suitable for use by standard passenger cars. Only 20 percent of NFSRs are suitable for standard passenger cars.

Crude oil is comprised of ALL fractions cracked by the distillation process. If you burn highway or roof asphalt, does the smoke it gives of as it burns the same color as lamp oil? Assuming that you are using antifreeze in the radiator (and not straight water), the glycol in it has a distinctive sweet smell after it passes out through the exhaust pipe (same smell as when an engine overheats and "spews" coolant).

We are open each weekend only starting the last weekend in September through October, Saturdays 9-5, Sundays 1-5. The Activity Area is $5 per person (ages 2-65) - pumpkins are extra and prices vary.

VDOT is responsible for roads, including paving and plowing, within Forest Lakes.  The townhome communities, in most cases, maintain their own roads and parking lots internally since these are private property.
