Products bearing the ENERGY STAR labels are more energy efficient than standard products, thereby saving energy and money. In general, ENERGY STAR qualified products including: appliances, HVAC equipment, office equipment, residential lighting, and even homes, reduce energy costs by at least 30 percent.

Roof products that meet or exceed solar reflectance, without compromising product quality and performance, qualify for the ENERGY STAR label. Manufacturers voluntarily sign an agreement with ENERGY STAR called a Partnership Agreement (PA) allowing them to place the ENERGY STAR label on the packaging of qualifying roof products. They can also use the label in product promotions and advertising for qualified products.

To earn the ENERGY STAR? label, roofing products must be highly efficient at reflecting the sun's rays ? without compromising product quality and performance. By reflecting the sun's rays, they can keep surface temperatures lower, decrease the amount of heat transferred into a building and reduce energy demand for cooling. ENERGY STAR? does not include a specification for roof insulation. However, roof insulation plays an important role in reducing building energy consumption for heating and cooling. The higher the R-value, the less heat or conditioned air is lost from the building envelope.

ENERGY STAR roof specifications are not restricted to any particular type of roof product. However, ENERGY STAR expects that, at least initially, metal, single-ply membrane, and roof coating products will be most widely represented.

Any single-family or multi-family residential home that is three stories or less in height can qualify to receive the ENERGY STAR label. This includes traditional site-constructed homes, as well as modular, systems-built houses (e.g., insulated concrete forms, structurally insulated panels) and HUD-code manufactured homes.

Yes. Existing homes can qualify for the ENERGY STAR label if they meet ENERGY STAR's performance guidelines. The energy efficiency of existing homes can often be greatly improved using cost-effective retrofit techniques.

No. The requirements to meet Energy Star and the tax credit are different. Qualification for Energy Star covers all energy use in a house, including water heating, lighting and appliances, while requirements for the tax credit only include space heating and cooling.

The most common roofing products currently rated for ENERGY STAR? include: metal, single ply membranes and roof coatings. ENERGY STAR helps businesses and consumers become aware of what products save energy to save money while protecting the environment for future generations. When a product, such as a Silver Line window, meets the requirements for ENERGY STAR that product then qualifies for the program.

By checking the component unit check box, the PHA is affirming that it is a component unit of another government and that it will not have a separate audit. A PHA should not check the box if it plans on having a separate audit engagement although it is a component unit of another government. Starting with PHAs with FYE 9/30/2001, electronic submission of audited information from component unit PHAs will be required. Prior to 9/30/2001, audited information was not required.
