Special diets must be provided for cats, as they require an amino acid called taurine -- found in the muscles of animals.

You cannot free-feed any dry food. Carb-laden dry cat food is the cause of feline diabetes in the first place. The human variety of tuna fish contains an enzyme that destroys vitamin B1 (thiamine).
