Q25. What is the difference between / 64-bit and 128-bit WEP ?

PTI - Professional ADSL solution, modem and router manufactu...
WEP is available in 40-bit (also called 64-bit), or in 108-bit (also called 128-bit) encryption modes. As 108-bit encryption provides a longer algorithm that takes longer to decode, it can provide better security than basic 40-bit (64-bit) encryption. The lower level of WEP encryption uses a 40 bit as ??Secret Key?? (set by user), and a 24 bit ??Initialization Vector?? ( not under user control ). Some vendors refer to this level of WEP as 40 bit, others as 64 bit.

Will 128-bit WEP communicate with 64-bit WEP ?

FAQs | Xwire
No. Although 128-bit WEP also uses a 24-bit initialization vector, it uses a 104-bit as secret key. Users need to use the same encryption level in order to make connection. See similar questions...

The difference between these two types of encryption is merely capability. 128-bit encryption is exponentially more powerful than 64-bit encryption. See similar questions...

How do I get 128-bit WEP working with a Prism2 wlan card?

Frequently Answered Questions
Although the orinoco_cs driver will often work with a Prism2-based WLAN card, it does not seem to support setting the keys for 128-bit WEP with those cards. Use the wlan-ng driver described above. See similar questions...

What are the differences between 40-, 64-, and 128-bit WEP keys?

FAQs | Xwire
bit WEP is the same as 40-bit WEP. The lower level of WEP encryption uses a 40-bit (10 hex character) "secret key" (set by the user), and a 24-bit "initialization vector" (not under user control). Some vendors refer to this level of WEP as 40-bit, others as 64-bit. Either way, they're the same encryption level and can interoperate. See similar questions...

What is the difference between 128-bit and 40-bit encryption?

allmythings.com | general FAQ's
The difference between these two types of encryption is one of capability. 128-bit encryption is exponentially more powerful than 40-bit encryption. bit encryption means there are 2 to the 40th (over a trillion, or a 1 followed by 12 zeros) possible keys that could fit into the lock that holds your account information. bit encryption means there are 2 to the 88th (a three followed by 26 zeroes) times as many key combinations than there are for 40-bit encryption. Q.   64-bit, 128-bit, 400-bit encryption??? What are the details of the SECURE algorithm?

SECURE [TM] PROGRAM FAQ
A.   The SECURE program greatly exceeds 400-bit encryption. The most secure encryption method is called the "one-time pad" when the length of the key exceeds the length of the message (or file). For example, if a 200k file was encrypted with a key length of 300k (2,400,000-bit encryption) there would be ABSOLUTELY no chance of decrypting the file IF you had only the encrypted file. My algorithm does not implement the one-time pad in every instance. See similar questions...

Q25. What is the difference between hardware and software RAID?

welcome
A25. Software RAID schemes use the system's processor, exploit host memory, compromise reliability and potentially rob the system of as mush as 60% of its CPU cycles just to process RAID calculations. All AMCC 3ware RAID controllers incorporate onboard processors to deliver true hardware RAID. See similar questions...

Q25: How many years can I use my carseat?

Child Carseat Safety FAQ
Many manufacturers now put "expiration" dates on their carseats. Six (6) years is the general recommendation. At most, 10 years is the accepted maximum lifetime of a carseat. The reasons for these limits involve possible degradation of the plastic shell and other parts, the possible loss/breakage of parts and the fact that older seats will often not meet current government safety standards.
