The low end of normal for blood glucose is defined as 65 mg/dl. Often low blood sugar may not be regarded as clinically relevant. Ask again, especially when symptoms are present. In our office we look for tighter blood sugar control, i.e., FPG 85-95 mg/dl.

A person who does not have diabetes maintains a blood glucose of 70-109 before meals, and under 140 two hours after meals. In a person with diabetes, we strive to maintain the same blood glucose levels as in a person who does not have diabetes. An Hemoglobin A1C test measures what your blood sugar has been 24 hours a day for the last 3 months. A diabetic should strive for an A1C of under 6.5. This test should be performed every 3 months to maintain good control.

Anything above these levels could be considered high but it's important to take medical advice as to what constitutes a high level for you. The medical term for this is hyperglycemia.

A fasting blood sugar (FBS) measures blood glucose after you have not eaten for at least 8 hours. A fasting blood glucose level lower than 6mmol/l is normal. A fasting blood glucose of 7mmol/l or higher (UK levels) may indicate diabetes.
