A GIF (the original and preferred pronunciation is DJIF) is one of the two most common file formats for graphic images on the World Wide Web.

You need a decent computer paint or image processing program for this purpose. It must be able to scale images, and save them in JPG or GIF format. Some programs, like the lame paint program that comes bundled within Windows, sure can't do that very well...
