In order to save files to a CD-R/RW at the Matthews Hall GACL, you have to use the Easy CD Creator 5.3 software. Follow the steps: Select the desired files by clicking on them (more than one file can be selected at once by holding the "Ctrl" key on the keyboard).

CD-R stands for Compact Disc-Recordable and can be recorded only once. You may continue to add files until the CD is full as long as the disc is not closed (write-protected). You cannot delete, rename, rearrange, or alter the files or file structure on the CD after recording. CD-RW stands for Compact Disc-Rewritable. It allows you to record the disc and then erase the entire disc and start over. You cannot select certain files to delete; you must erase the entire disc.

To backup to a CD-RW, you must have packet writing software (DirectCD, InCD, etc.) installed. You will need to format your CD with this software. This will provide a drive letter for you to use as the destination for the backup job. EZBack-it-up has no built-in support for CD-R's. However, you can still use it to create an archive that you can then use with your CD burning software.

CD-R means "Compact Disc Recordable." It's a "write-once" media, which means the data (music) can't be overwritten, erased or reused (rerecorded). A completed or "finalized" CD-R can be played in virtually any standard CD player. CD-RW or "Compact Disc Rewritable," can be erased and rewritten (recorded) many times. The only drawback is a CD-RW won't playback in all CD players...the players must be CD-RW compatible.

On your Win 95/98/NT PC, you can read files from the CD-R or CD-RW as normal CD. No special software is needed.

You can use Folder Guard to restrict access to the CD-ROM or floppy drive, but that would not encrypt the files on the CD or floppy disk. It means that if you take the CD or floppy to another computer, without Folder Guard installed on it, the disc or floppy would NOT be protected. If you want to protect the removable drive so that it would be protected even if you remove it from your computer, you need some sort of encryption software to do that. (Folder Guard does NOT do encryption.)

Once you've completed the recording process on a home recorder or a PC, a disc will play either in a PC or any other CD player. In blank form, though, PC data discs and CD-R (or CD-RW Audio) audio discs are very different, and it's important to choose the right one.

Obviously there are advantages to recording a DVD-Video volume on inexpensive recordable CD rather than expensive recordable DVD. It would be perfect for testing and for short video programs. Unfortunately, you can put DVD-Video files on CD-R or CD-RW media but you'll have a hard time finding a player that can play the disc. The Philips DVD170 industrial player seems to be the only player that can play DVD-Video content from CD-R and CD-RW discs.

If you have a blank recordable CD (CD-R) or a re-writable CD (CD-RW), you do not need to format your CD. You can use it immediately. For the re-writable CD (CD-RW), you can erase your existing files by clicking on the "Erase this CD-RW" link from the CD Writing Tasks from My Computer. However, this feature will erase all your files in the CD, you cannot select file to erase.

CD-R is a short form of "CD-Recordable", meaning recordable CD. In the past, users could only read the data on a CD-ROM. If users wanted to record data onto a CD, they had to ask assistance from a factory and do so in large quantities. With CD-R however, individuals can save data on a CD and produce a format that is exactly the same as that of a standard CD-ROM.

On to any device that is accessable by your operating system. Files may also be recovered to network share specified by UNC path (such as \\myserver\myshare). You may select the recovery path from a standard Windows directory dialog or enter it manually. Please note, the file system of the drive, which is used for saving recovered files may limit recovery of NTFS files extended information (see Q6 for details).

Non-copyrighted CD's can be duplicated in the LRC where there are 2 PC stations with CD burners. Blank CD's can be purchased at the front desk of the LRC for $1.40. LRC staff is available for assistance.

Yes, DMD-RO501 only writes to DVD+R/RW media, however it will read compatible pre-recorded DVD-R/RW media or CD-R/RW media. (NOTE: DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW require finalization before playable on other devices. So, please make sure any recordable media you attempt to play has been finalized on the original recorder)
