The current U.S. EPA guideline is a radon gas level lower than 4 picocuries per liter of air (4pCi/L). In Canada the federal government has recommended that the Canadian acceptable level for radon should be 800 becquerels per cubic meter of air (800 Bq/m3).

The US EPA has established the "action level" for deciding when you need to do something about the radon in your home, school, or work place at 4 pCi/liter. One pCi/liter means that in one liter of air there will be 2.2 radioactive disintegrations (events) each minute. For example, at 4 pCi/l there will be approximately 12,672 radioactive disintegrations in one liter of air, during a 24-hour period. The traditional target for clinic blood pressure when you are on treatment is 140/90 or lower. The recommended level for home blood pressure is 135/85 or less. The reason for this difference is that clinic readings are in most people consistently higher than home readings. In older people (over the age of 65), slightly higher readings may be acceptable, although there are not yet any strict guidelines about this.

Your standard indoor air purifier is only able to remove particles and not gases. There are however industrial level air purifier systems that can effectively capture these gases but they are very expensive.
