about 6 months, the two lower front teeth (central incisors) will erupt, followed shortly by the two upper central incisors. The remainder of the baby teeth appear during the next 18 to 24 months but not necessarily in an orderly sequence from front to back. The problem may be one of opportunities missed with respect to growth and development. While patients can be treated at any age, those with available growth may enjoy a substantial advantage. Timely treatment may prevent the need for jaw surgery, extraction of permanent teeth, or fracture of protruded incisors. Early treatment may also help the psychological development. soon as your baby's teeth appear, clean them with a piece of gauze or a damp washcloth at least once a day or after each feeding. When all of the baby teeth are in, brush them gently with a fluoride toothpaste, using a pea-sized dab of toothpaste. Also use an extra soft, children's toothbrush. It helps to have your baby lay his or her head on your lap so you can see the teeth better when you brush. After brushing, make sure your child spits out all of the toothpaste and rinses with water.
