Candles are not allowed inside the event space or museum. We have great suggested alternatives, such as battery operated votives and small lamps. Candles are allowed outside on our Plaza.

Always try to get natural wax candles if possible. At the very least, steer clear of the artificially perfumed and chemically "enhanced" variety.

All decorations must meet Fire Department safety regulations. Hotel does permit the use of safety fuel cells, however, they must be enclosed in glass to be lit.

We use the finest quality of container wax available in our candles. It is a low burn wax so your candles burn longer than most others. It is a soft, creamy consistency so the scent molecules attach throughout the melting process creating a stronger scent that remains throughout the candle. The soft wax also allows the dye molecules to attach better so your candle will not fade over time.

Ear Candling is an ancient natural therapy that has been used traditionally by the Egyptians, Chinese, Indians & Tibetans for over 3000 years. Typically, ear candles were placed in the outer ear then ignited to produce smoke & warmth that enters the ear canal, bringing spiritual energy & soothing herbal essences into the ear. Their historic roots can be traced back to the Indians of North & South America.

We generally recommend one treatment daily for up to seven days in acute cases, one to two times a week for chronic indications, and one treatment regularly every three to four weeks for preventative or revitalizing indications.

In the presence of a perforated eardrum or tympanotomy tube implants we strictly do not recommend the use of ear candles. The same applies to all kinds of inflammations of the ear or skin diseases in and around the ear. If you suffer from a chronic or acute disease, or if you feel ear candling may not suit you, you should by all means consult a therapist of your confidence for further advice.

Many nonflammable items can be used as embeds in gel candles. Glass items work great, sand, seashells and beach glass are good for the bottom of the candle (make sure they are clean or they will cloud gel). You can also use wax embeds with a high melting point of 140 F or higher (our wax embeds are specifically for gel candles) and pour your gel very cool so as not to melt the wax embeds. Use your imagination but be careful.

Yes, all Johnston Honey candles contain only beeswax. Some commercially available candles are labeled "beeswax" but only contain 50% beeswax and the rest is paraffin.

No, however, it is very important to read the instructions carefully before use. It is even more important not to ear candle by yourself. You must always have a partner to help ear candle for you. Adult supervision is required at all times. Always use caution with fire. A protective towel must be used at all times. Ear candles are not a medical device. Please consult your health professional to treat all medical conditions.
