Crabgrass will germinate when soil temperatures are consistently 55-60 degrees at a depth of 2 inches. In Nebraska this typically will occur around April 20th to May 5th. Our Deluxe Fertilizer Program includes two applications of a pre-emergence with the first being applied from late March thru April. The second application is applied Mid-May to June and serves to extend the "window" for which the crabgrass prevention barrier is effective.

To germinate, a seed takes in water and begins to swell, and continues until the tiny plants emerge from the soil and begin to make their own food by photosynthesis.

GERMINATION: Under ideal conditions, hulled seeds can germinate within 3 to 7 days. IF conditions are NOT ideal, it is quite normal for Bermuda seeds to take 14 to 21 days for germination to occur. Occasionally it can take even longer. Seedlings are very small when they first emerge and require careful inspection to observe. Under ideal conditions, it is possible for Bermuda's to establish from seed within about 5-6 weeks to provide a limited / usable turf.

Crabgrass is an aggressive weedy lawn grass that emerges each spring from seed. Mow your lawn high to thicken it and reduce the ability of crabgrass to establish in your lawn. A crabgrass preventer if used must be applied before seed germinates in late spring. Dandelions set seed in puffballs that are released by wind and can be blown from one lawn to the next. Most dandelion seed germinates in the fall.

The optimum germination temperature is around 60f (15c), although they will still germinate if the temperature is higher or lower. Don't forget to keep the soil moist, but not over-watered.

Like any application made to the lawn, It is subject to weather conditions such as rain. Moisture can effect how long the preemergent is effective. If you apply a preemergent in early Spring and still have a problem in the Summer with crabgrass, it would be a good idea to make a second application about a month after the first to help control it. Even under the best circumstances, a preemergent is about 85% effective.

Control for crabgrass after it emerges will depend on the amount that is present. If it a small amount it is important to realize that this grass is an annual and will die all by itself with the first or second frost. Although it can be difficult, Crabgrass can be pulled up as well. Sometimes crabgrass can overtake a lawn and in this situation it might be necessary to make a chemical application. Postemergents can be found at most hardware stores or nurseries.

It will work, just make sure the crabgrass or weed area is wet enough and evenly treated, it is very easy to use.

Crabgrass is an annual weed that grows from seed every year. Apply C-I-L® Golfgreen™ Lawn Fertilizer with Crabgrass Control in early spring. For best results it should be applied before crabgrass plants germinate, usually in the early spring when the forsythia bush is in full bloom.

C-I-L® Golfgreen™ Lawn Fertilizer with Crabgrass Control can be used at higher rates to control crabgrass up to the three-leaf stage, usually mid-June.

Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris) seeds are carried in cones that ripen in September and October and are normally dispersed from December to March. There is some disagreement among authorities about whether the seeds need cold treatment to germinate, but exposure to cold probably speeds up the germination process. Seeds collected in fall can be placed in a moist paper towel and stored in an air-permeable polyethylene bag in the refrigerator for two weeks to three months.

Please have patience; some palm seeds may take many months or even years to germinate. As long as the seeds remain hard and are not rotting, you can assume they are still good.

Technically speaking, for crabgrass to germinate, soil temperatures need to be 56 degrees for three straight mornings measured at 10 a.m. In our areas, that means that crabgrass preventers should be applied between mid March and early April. If possible, do this before a good soaking rain. Otherwise, be sure to apply a _Ó of water to the lawn.

You can seed the lawn only if you use a product containing Tupersan to prevent crabgrass. Tupersan stops crabgrass from germinating while allowing the grass seed to germinate. To make sure you do the job right the first time, we invite you to come into the garden center and speak to one of our turf specialists.

Use a pre-emergent weedkiller in very early spring and again 90 days later in early summer. If you already have existing plants you will need to use a post-emergent herbicide containing MSMA for their control. MSMA can only be used in bermuda turf.

Wet the area to be killed, dust with the crabgrass powder, wait a few minutes, if not activated then lightly mist over the product so as to completely activate. (DO NOT wash the product off of the leaves)

It is best to aerate the lawn before applying crabgrass preventer containing Dimension®. If you must do so after, which would be the case with warm season lawns, wait at least 4 months after applying Crabgrass Preventer with Dimension.
