A blind generally refers to a slatted treatment that offers light control; a shade is typically a style that operates up and down, either exposing or covering, but not offering as much light control as a blind.

Although hosta is a shade loving plant, if it's too dark hostas will probably grow and survive, but not flourish. Ideally, hostas prefer a dappled shade. While some hostas are sun tolerant, if there is not enough shade it may effect leaf color.

The Schooner Zodiac and Schooner Martha are sail-training vessels and will sail as much as possible. The amount of sailing we do depends on the wind, where we are headed, and the interests of the group. The M/V David B and Snow Goose are power boats and thus not applicable. The Island Odyssey and Island Roamer will try to sail when they can, however their interest is in wildlife viewing first of all.

In most cases Bareboat insurance regulations do not permit you to sail after dark. Exceptions are made in some areas for purposes of making a night crossing in order to make a daylight landfall.

The racing sail has several differences and it is not always just white, many of the world's editions have colors and are equally as competitive. The main difference is the race sail is cut fuller and slightly larger overall, has a window, cunningham and reinforcement patches on the leach. If your just getting started, I would highly recommend you learn with the standard sail and have a window and cunningham grommet installed.

Dinghy sailing sessions take place 3 weeknights and on weekends all year round. Ruffian sessions take place four weeknights and Sundays from April to October. Evening session run from start of May to mid September. Members can sail in as many sessions as they wish subject to availability. (Additional session will be added if there is a demand).

You will be assigned to a vessel with a fellow student. The Shipboard Training Office makes every effort to pair you with a requested classmate when possible.
