U.S. participants can link to the online topographic map at "topozone.com" to help find their lat/long. (Helpful hint: you will later be asked to provide the elevation of your study site. Try to obtain your elevation from the online topographic map while you're there.) Unfortunately, at this time we don't have a similar map web site for Canada.

Every point located on the equator (an imaginary great circle passing round the middle of the Earth) is at zero degrees of latitude. Zero degrees longitude is every point on the Greenwich Meridian or primary meridian - an imaginary line which runs from the North Pole to the South Pole. StarGPS-NX outputs the lat/long in degrees, minutes and seconds (rounding to the nearest second). If the telescope controller does not support seconds then it rounds to the nearest minute. See similar questions...

For most of my maps, you can use one of the following. For the Blacks and Prisons in California map, I don't have a way right now. Edit the URL in your browser by hand. Look for something like lat=-122&long=37 and change those latitude and longitude coordinates to the ones you want. Latitude values that are south of the equator (like Australia) are negative. Longitude values that are west of Greenwich England (like the USA) are negative. If you're in Brazil, both the latitude and longitude would be negative. See similar questions...
