CAN I JUST FIELD-TREAT LUMBER IN PLACE OF USING PRESSURE-TREATED LUMBER?

FAQ
Generally no, you will obtain nowhere near the same level of durability. Lumber must be pressure-treated to obtain the proper penetration depth and chemical level for adequate long-term protection of the lumber. Field treatment with organic solvent-based preservatives works acceptably well on lumber ends but not on the flat surfaces. This is because end-grain of lumber absorbs preservative up to 100 times more than the flat surface.

SHOULD PRESSURE-TREATED LUMBER AND PLYWOOD BE DRIED PRIOR TO INSTALLATION?

FAQ
Yes. As with all construction wood, both treated wood and plywood should be dried to a moisture content of 19% or less prior to installation in a building to ensure dimensional stability. Drying is less important when CCA-treated wood is to be used outdoors.

Do you recommend staining Pressure Treated Lumber?

Fence-All - FAQ for Wood Fences
Pressure Treated Lumber will weather over time to a silver gray color that might be appealing from an architectural perspective, but effective water repellants will retard the impact of moisture in the wood and, thereby, help reduce splitting, cracking and twisting that is common with these types of wood.

Is Pressure Treated a more expensive, maintenance-free lumber?

Fence-All - FAQ for Wood Fences
Pressure Treated Lumber is a less expensive alternative to Cedar, or other wood types that are naturally good for outdoor projects. Because most common wood species have little resistance to decay, some form of chemical preservative is necessary to protect the lumber from rot and from attack of insects and fungi. This chemical treatment does not stop dimensional changes in the wood which are caused by changes in the weather and humidity.

Why choose a cedar deck over pressure treated lumber?

HickoryDickoryDecks.com
Currently we build 100 cedar decks for every pressure treated one. We prefer using natural outdoor cedar to chemically treated wood. We also find a lot less slivers and a deck that looks better now and in years to come.

SANSIN PTL; can it be used on non pressure treated lumber?

Frequently Asked Questions @ sansin.com
Answer: Yes! PTL performs outstandingly on many wood species. Keep in mind that the color is somewhat stronger than with other Sansin wood coatings. Answer: No, the base formulas are inherently different. Although they may appear to be compatible, we cannot guarantee performance results.

What kind of maintenance is required for pressure treated lumber?

DeckWright Atlanta Hand Crafted Decks, Screened Porches, Sun...
It is best to seal the wood with a penetrating water sealer as soon as the wood is dry. This could take anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 months depending on the climate and time of year. The pressure treatment process is chemically injected to resist rot, decay and termite infestation. The sealer and /or stain protect the wood against the damaging effects of water and UV sun exposure such as cracking, splitting and warping.

What are the typical applications for pressure-treated lumber and plywood products?

SaferWood: F.A.Q.
Pressure-treated lumber and plywood are intended for above-ground exterior use. Both are appropriate for a wide range of applications. These include exterior decks and balconies, stairways, covered walkway siding, molding and trim, soffit and facia, open-air roof systems, stables, scaffolding, and construction staging.

What wood species and sizes are available in pressure-treated lumber and plywood?

SaferWood: F.A.Q.
Douglas fir, southern yellow pine, and western red cedar are now available. All common sizes and most construction species of lumber and plywood (of any thickness) can be treated by Thermex-FR.

What is high blood pressure and how is it treated?

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) - Texas Heart Institute Hea...
Your heart pumps blood through a network of arteries, veins, and capillaries. The moving blood pushes against the arterial walls, and this force is measured as blood pressure. High blood pressure results from the tightening of very small arteries (arterioles) that regulate the blood flow through your body. As these arterioles tighten (or constrict), your heart has to work harder to pump blood through the smaller space, and the pressure inside the vessels grows.

What About the Chemicals in Treated Lumber?

FAQ
Recent studies have shown that you can use a Delmhorst meter with confidence at the treating plant, job site, or when the wood is in service if the preservative is a "C oxide" formulation (CCA-C) widely used today. Our experience has shown that at higher moisture content levels (above 20 percent), chemically treated lumber tends to yield somewhat erratic readings.

ANY SUGGESTIONS WHEN BUILDING WITH TREATED LUMBER?

Frequently Asked Questions
One quite important one: Use hot-dip galvanized meeting ASTM-A153/A653, 304 or 316 stainless steel or other fasteners, otherwise, your treated wood will last longer than the unprotected fasteners you've used to put it together. Do not use preserved wood in direct contact with aluminum. A poly barrier is recommended for any applications where treated lumber will meet aluminum flashing. No.

How are pressure sores treated?

Thyroid.org: Childhood Head and Neck Irradiation FAQ

Is there a listing of lumber mills whereby heat treated lumber may be purchased?

USDA - APHIS - Import and Export
APHIS does not have information pertaining to lumber mills providing HT marked wood. Heat treated lumber with the required HT stamp must first be requested of the mill. It is the HT stamp that the inspection agency facilities will first be looking for when applying the grading agency official mark to the assembled product.

I have high blood pressure as well as angina. Do any medications treat both problems?

Frequently Asked Questions
To treat both high blood pressure and angina, physicians often rely on "combination therapy" consisting of nitrate medicine plus a beta-blocker, or nitrate medicine plus a calcium channel blocker (CCB). Coronary artery bypass is now commonplace and even less risky than gallbladder surgery in most people. In addition, the recovery time for bypass surgery is much shorter than it was a decade ago.

How do I know the lumber which I buy has been properly treated?

FAQ on Treated Lumber
If you purchase pressure treated lumber which carries the TP (Timber Products) stamp on the lable then you can be assured that the lumber has been treated to pass the minimum standards of two different teating processes. One test provides for the assurance that the lumber as passed a retention test. This means that all lumber with a .40 designation or the words ground contact on the end tag will have a minimum of 40 percent of chemical concentration in the wood.

Why dry lumber?

Frequently Asked Questions - Drying & Dehydration | Nyle...
Nyle offers the drying units only, and not the chamber structure. We do provide technical plans and specifications for the construction and/or supply of the drying chamber with each purchase of a Nyle unit.

How much water is in lumber?

Frequently Asked Questions - Drying & Dehydration | Nyle...
A lot. In Fact, some species of wood are more than 50 percent water in terms of their weight when freshly cut. Once wood is dry will it remain dry? Wood is always trying to come into equilibrium with the air surrounding it, so its moisture content can change somewhat after it's been dried.
