This is another example of how a seemingly simple question can spiral down into an ugly set of if/then statements.

older PPC laptops with DB-15 connectors (there should be a small gray adapter in the bag with the projector that says "NEC multisync" on it) even older laptops (500 series, 5300) with the VDI output (there's a longer grey adapter cable in the bag as well)

Generally, yes. The LitePro has a converter box which will accept a signal from either VGA (labelled "PC") or the older Mac monitor connect (HD-15). You need to dial the circular converter appropriately. New Macs should just use the "PC" setting. For reasons that escape me entirely, sometimes it works better if you use the mac setting and an HD-15 to VGA converter. Go figure.

For the really old Mac laptops, you'll have to grab the adapter from the Epson bag, and use it along with the dipswitch adapter.

This equipment is handled by the Equipment Cage on the second floor. They can be reached at 813-393-5332. The Library supplies video cameras, audio recorders, psychological tests, and rooms in this same manner.

If the display from your laptop does not come up on the LCD projector there are a few things to check: middot; Check to be sure the projector is turned on & you have the correct input selected on the projector. (usually computer 1 or data1) middot; Does your screen resolution match the capabilities of the LCD projector? If not, you will need to reduce your screen resolution to the capabilities of the projector. 800x600 for SVGA, 1024x768 for XGA.

Students may check out multiple pieces of equipment each check-out, but no more than one piece from each catagory. In other words, a student may have a projector, laptop, digital camera and flatbed scanner, but may not have two laptops at once. To reserve more than one item at a time, just select the items on the same request page.

For more complicated setup issues, you can usually access the monitor settings in Windows by right-clicking in the desktop window to get the "properties" of the desktop. Use the menu controls and make sure that the projector is set for input from the computer monitor connector (might be called "RGB"), not "VCR" or "S-video". Most Mac laptops are capable of producing 2 separate video signals.

Yes, however you must be able to pass the speaker signal from your amp through the Cabbone and then to the two sets of speakers. Most high-end combo amps will be equipped to do this.

There are many different types of LCD panels that will work for a DIY projector. The easiest type to use is a projection panel, which can be easily obtained online at www.ebay.com or sometimes right here in our online store. An even better type of LCD to use is a modified LCD monitor (15" diagonal or less). You will get better resolution and contrast ratio from a modified LCD monitor, but the modification can be very difficult.

Yes. Anyone with a laptop/PDA can connect to the Internet using the library's wireless connection if it is equipped with a wireless card. You can also connect to the Internet using a wired campus network port. There are about 10 wired ports throughout the library.<

We do allow researchers to use laptops in the Special Collection research room, but unfortunately we do not have a power point, so make sure your battery is charged!
